Is cityfitness a good gym, and will it help me reach my goals?

Hi

I previously went to Curves and did not get results.

I'm thinking of signing up for City Fitness, because they have lots of great classes, cardio equipment, womens only areas, a basket ball court and showers. It also seems like a reasonable price.

I've heard that I should stop doing so much cardio, and start lifting weights. I don't want to do build building competitions or bulk up too much, I would like to be slim and toned like Jessica Alba or Jillian Michaels. Something like that. I don't want to be ''skinny fat''.

Is there enough weight lifting equipment/machines at City Fitness for me to reach my goals? Do I need to lift weights past a certain point if I don't want to be muscle woman? I don't want to be bulging.

Thank you :)

Btw, I am a 24 yr old woman.

Yes, cityfitness will get you shredded. I go there and I'm peeled

But seriously, It's not the gym it's the individual who makes the difference.

all you need is consistency really, oh and a barbell. Cardio and that crap is good for, you guessed cardiovascular health and burning a few cals, which is by no means bad. But weight training will help you build muscle which in turns burns more cals. Make weight training your focus with cardio as an accessory. Stick to the basics like deadlifts, squats, bench and ohp. Don't over complicate things and have fun.

And a good diet, don't eat to much shit food and don't eat to much in general.

Oh and lol you won't turn into a muscle woman hahaha, I train heavy and train fairly smart and eat heaps and I'm not even muscly and my body produce far more testosterone than yours.

my 2cents anyway, founded from my very small amount of knowledge

...you don't want to 'work too hard' because you'll suddenly become big & muscular so you take it easy right? yeah this is not a problem with your gym it's with your attitude towards training. tthose bodybuilders out there male or female they aren't that way because they picked up heavy weights once or twice, they got that way because they really wanted it - they worked hard with their meals + training to get that way. if you want results you'll have to work for it, matters not so much which gym you're in but more on your state of mind. this is the same whether you want to look like jessica alba or sylvester stallone.. control your diet, get your fitness levels up, train consistently

ha he means it's a 24hour life style change.

It doesn't have to all happen overnight, but you will need to change your approach as your body changes, but it gets easier as you lose weight and feel better within yourself.

the trends seems to be more smaller meals throughout the day, and a combination of weight and cardio days at the gym.

the gym should be able to help with start up programs and diet info. get some measurments done monthly for your own progress goals.  It will also help with getting a handle on your diet.

You will have stumbling blocks, but talk to the trainers or nutrition people at the gym. they will help you

By the time you get even halfway to your "Jessica Alba body" goal, you'll have spent enough time in the gym to have learnt how your body responds to lifting weights and diet changes.  Getting "too big" or "too muscly" is definitely not a short term concern.

It is a generally accepted fact, (and certainly my observation over the years), that women who incorporate lifting in their routine get better results than the cardio-only ladies.  Best of luck.
