I will have to change soon to gym nation 2 hottest male member to go along with previous titles nzbb hottest male member  and gym nation hottest male member

how do you know youre the hottest member still? maybe someone really hot joined and hasnt posted pics yet

That Abel Keane guy was pretty hot, but when I printed out a picture of him and Gymrat on to large peice of cardboard and started to conduct a poll using a wide demographic from the general public, ask one simple question: who would you rather?. GR won by a landslide. So GR you old the title for now.

Hey guys, we've been a bit quiet here recently, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to let you know what I've been up to.

Soon we'll be moving the forum onto a new software platform. It's pretty cool, and it comes with a lot of the bells and whistles that you guys have asked for at various times. (It's what we were aiming for with the current site, but missed.)

Off the top of my head, features include:

- Better mobile functionality

- Notifications when people reply to you, like your posts, etc

- Simplified structure for Workout Journals and Post your Pics

- Simplified design for Training Forums section on the front page

- Better social integration (some of that to come after the initial rollout)

- Feature articles (again, some to come later on)

- and much more.

The design is "the same, but different". We've spruced it up a bit, and made it a bit more modern.

Once Gymnation 2.0 is up and running, I want to start running far more promos and competitions. (In fact I'd like to start that right now, but I don't have enough time to do everything.)

So don't feel like nothing is happening here. There's a LOT happening behind the scenes. And soon it's going live. Smile

Also an idea. As it has been mentioned Gymnation struggles to compete with Facebook and it seems you are adding more facebook like features, which personally think is a great idea. But how about you also add more facebook like features like:

  • each time a post it liked it can be seen who liked that post.
  • You can tag other users, and they are notified. (so dont have to wait until riccardo decided to flick through all topics to see if he's required.
  • Hashtags

#Gymnation2.0 #Gymrat

yeah those are good ideas. also if people neg you and shit you want the person being negged along with other people to be able to see it. basically you want the forum to be good source of info but fun to read/post in as well and for that you need to have shitstorms/rivalries/dynamics etc.

forum layout/difficuties navigating is only one aspect of the forums decrease in popularity and to be fair it had already started becomming less popular before the rebrand. possibly due to banning gear brand talk which was a large source of shitstorms/lols.

also you need to somehow get lots of new and old members participating at the same time. what basically happens atm is a new/old member comes for a look then sees lack of participation etc and thinks forum's shit and then leaves again.

You can definitely see who's liked your post.

I agree - tagging is something we want. It's not in the current version of the software, but the developers are going to be releasing a new version which does have this soon. But I don't think we can wait for that. (It's a bit frustrating, because it means all the development work we're doing for "Gymnation 2.0" will have to be redone when the new software is released - but that's unavoidable, unfortunately.)

AZIDE - yep, we need to get the community back up to "critical mass" where it has its own momentum. I think that's possible - we monitor traffic to the site with Google Analytics, and the number of daily unique visitors did drop when we first moved to Gymnation (by about 25%), it's stayed pretty steady ever since. Pageviews show a bigger drop, but a similar pattern. That tells me that engagement is down, but the people are still here. Which is a long-winded way of saying exactly what you said - we need to get them participating more.

Once the new forum is up and running, I'm going to try and run more competitions, and really push the site through Facebook, etc. And it'll probably need you guys to spread the word, too. But if we look a bit cooler, and have cooler shit happening, hopefully it'll be something you'll want to tell everyone about.

In the meantime, start some new topics! :)

Why not spend more time advertising on facebook - I'm pretty sure that's the most effective advertising at the moment. Could easily direct traffic from facebook with a bit of well placed advertising on there... I follow the page but NEVER see any of the posts as you often need to promote indiviudal posts to actually get your folllows to see them on the newsfeed.

One basic feature this forum lacks is the ability to jump to a page. If I want to look back in the middle of my journal, I have to press 2 pages back a million times until I get to where I want to be. Extremely annoying and the page doesn't fit enough posts on a page. I like at least 20 posts per page and you should be able to customise this

Yep. Because the current forum software was largely built from scratch, solely for Gymnation, unfortunately it meant that there's a lot of tiny details like this that were omitted. And overall, it's those tiny details that make a big difference to the usability of the site.

The software we will be moving to is an off-the-shelf package that includes all these bells and whistles.

Oh, and Dinah, I do plan to have a bigger presence on Facebook. But right now, A) I don't have time to do anything extra, and B) it makes more sense to upgrade the forum, and then start promoting it.

Just thought I should let you guys know what's happening on the forum upgrade front.

In a nutshell...

- We have built a data converter that should migrate most things across into the new forum software, and we're testing it now. Getting the data out of our current system has been the biggest challenge by far. A few minor issues (little things like deleting the first post of every topic, or no post attachments) are being fixed, but otherwise it seems pretty solid.

- The design skin and templates have been built. A few tweaks still needed, but nothing that should delay us too much.

- We're just writing the code to do all the "extra" bits now - and hopefully the bulk of that should be completed in a few weeks.

From the new software, we'll be in a much better position to start growing the community more. This has been a pretty difficult project, and it's not over yet. But it's getting damn close!

Thanks for bearing with us, everyone.

Yeah, should have more of a presence on facebook, maybe an instagram account that posts photo's of the month and other relevant shiz should the owners of the photos be happy that you post them there. Maybe also Post of the month linked via the gymnation facebook account.Should also have integration to social media. You should also push your sponsors and advertisers to link to gymnation more through their own social media accounts.

That's definitely the plan. To be honest, right now I'm struggling to find time to even reply to all the topics I should on this site, let alone post more on social media. Once I've got a spare second to think about it (after Gymnation 2.0 is up and running), I'm going to see how I can get someone else to look after this side of things. I also have a few other ideas about ways we can integrate with social media too. It will happen.

How about include a toilet training section, which, in the words of Azide ''people can shit all over'', in order to keep the rest of the forum clean.

That would be the Playground.

There seems to be a lot of people coming on here new to powerlifting and bodybuilding that dont really know where to start as far as programs and diet are concerned. Could you look at an easy access bulking/ fatloss calculator, basic strength programs, a food chart listing ideal protein , carb and fat sources. A question and answer thread. Also clean up a few of the threads full of just crap. Maybee limit some peoples posts to just their training log if they get a bit silly.
