strange weight gain

Recommended Posts

Hi guy and girls

Iv recently changed my training plan so it now consists of 2 gym session a week and 4 cardio sessions (league training) and im very strict with my eating. But somehow my weight has gone from 94-95kg when I was doing nothing but 5 gym sessions a week to where im 100kg now. The only thing thats changed is iv realised exactly how much protein my body needs and im feeding it accordingly. It seems strange to me that my weights gone up by 5-6kg in 4weeks when im now doing more cardio. And inhaling my 150-200grams of protein a day. I play rugby league and im a winger. Ideally id like to be as lean as possible. And im trying to get there by upping my cardio. Surely my protein intake isnt making me put on that much weight that quickly?? . . . . Any help/ideas please people! Im completely mythed!

How many almonds a day? heaps of high fat meats?(steak etc) fat cals can add up pretty quick. To be putting on weight you must be in a cal surplus. Sounds like you got the protein side sorted so cut back on some of those fats/carbs . Try using the myfitnesspal app on your smart phone and you should get a pretty good idea of where you are going wrong

sounds pretty simple to me..

you started exercising more , and in turn started eating more - if your putting on weight and not liking it - your probably eating too much.  doesnt matter how "clean" the sources of food you eat.

Yes that would be a simple conclusion but im not eating more. Im eating the same amount if not less. . .

but you said you added protein...just like any other food into your body doesn't matter if it's coming from whey powder or animals, protein is calories and the extra calories still count

now to play a little bit of devils advocate......

how sure are you that all that weight gain has been fat? you've changed your training around significantly, looks like you're getting a bit more rest in between weights sessions than before could be at least some of that is muscle.

if you're really concerned get your bodyfat levels checked now and again in another 4 weeks. if i were you i'd just keep on doing what you're doing and if you notice you continue to gain like that in 2 weeks time, lower the intake a bit

To fully understand what is happening here we need to know more such as age and height.

It sounds like you have added the extra nutrition your body has been wanting and it is now growing. If you are under 25 and tall it sounds like you have been training hard and on a relativley restricted diet, given the amount of energy your body is utilising.

If you now provide the extra nutrition your muscles have been wanting then it is only natural that growth will occur.

So long as your body fat is not increasing then there is nothing to worry about and you cannot/should not try to halt the natural adaption process ie stress/growth as this is what you are trying to achieve through training in the first place.

Rebel101's last post is what I would most agree with.

If you're asking this question then you are probably not quite acquainted with how your body responds to increases in protein, carbs, fats, more rest, less rest or are having difficulty telling what is going on .... noone can really tell you what is "going on'' really - as everyone reponds differently. This one of the biggest things people learn throughout time and experience of training themselves.

If I had to guess I would say that decreasing your gym sessions from 5 to 2 has been good for your recovery from the gym sessions which is why you are probably gaining muscle. But this is based on my assumption that it is not fat you are gaining (it could be). only you can make this judgement OR get callipers done to check.

as mentioned before by others -weight gain doesnt mean you arent getting leaner. Scale weight is a pretty crude and unhelpful measurement of anything imo so callipers might be the way to go next time.

Your body is probably just carrying inflamation from the big jump in cardio in a short space of time.

Any big fluctuations in weight in short time periods like this is always going to be a huge fluid change from some form of stress and nothing to get your panties in a twist about.

I fail to see how this makes any difference to your game on feild?

Weight will probably go down again in the next couple weeks as it regulates fluids/inflamation.
