Yeah, I know some forums have secret sections, but I really don't like that. It always has a slightly dodgy feel about it - after all, if it's a section worth having, shouldn't everyone be able to benefit from it? Especially if the main argument for this section to exist is public safety.

I also think it's bad for the community if there's an exclusive club that not everyone can be part of. People start wondering, "What are they hiding that we can't see?" It creates a "them versus us" tension.

i agree ,dont limit a secret section to certain members.

if gear discussion is to be had - everyone should be at least be able to read and benefit from it.

in the section you could limit it to a review of product like something below

example...

what brand was used:

compound used:

dose used:

duration of cycle:

side effects:

results:

would you use again:

no discussion of prices etc . i think it would reflect a good amount of info about brand and compound.

is that enough to be useful? looks like a very nice short list though. maybe make a form that people can fill in with character limit on fields so people can't go on about bullshit just short & simple public info executive summary style. form submit would then probably send to a moderator who clicks approve before publishing info to a thread or something should all be straight forward with any CMS

Resurrecting this topic a year later...

I like that. I'm not sure that our current software will let us put a minimum post requirement on a particular forum, but I'm looking at changing systems, so hopefully the new one would. Setting the limit at 100 posts would certainly stop the 5 spammy posts we currently get when people want to send PMs, but 100 posts is quite high for a lot of members. Maybe 50 posts would be better? You want it high enough to discourage spamming, but not impossibly high.

We're now on that new software, so technically we can now do this - if we think it's still warranted.

But looking at it now with fresh eyes, I think I see a problem. Experienced members who do meet the post requirement are more likely to have already found and stick to a reliable source, so they won't be producing too many reviews. They may be selling gear themselves, so the post requirement doesn't stop them giving their product a glowing review. And even worse, the people who we would most want to hear from - the ones with safety concerns - are most likely to be new members who have not yet met the post requirement.

So potentially it's creating an environment that supports shilling by dealers, but prevents real users giving real feedback.

Thoughts?

Forum fine as it is now. I vote keep as is currently. More problems than benefit. People who come on with 1 post to ask bout brands of gear then dissapear don't deserve our answers and tbh most of them have already bought the gear then they ask the questions lol that's true.

Lol same as people that buy their gear then join and post asking if they should do x cycle then when everyone says no or gives constructive criticism they leave cos they were gonna do what they were gonna do anyway just wanted a pat on the back

I've just bought XYZ product and I've started using it and I was just wondering if anyone else had used it and if you could tell me if it was any good and if you tell me it's not good that's okay coz I'll probably just keep using it anyway and by the way what is the difference between mg and ml? K thnx bye."

I feel some heavy points have been made for the argument to keep the forum as-is, but I must say, as a rookie AAS user I would love to hear a few more opinions when choosing the gear I'm going to buy or avoid.

On non-NZ forums it seems like it is a contested issue too, with the main problem being shilling. Most sites that have opted to allow brand names have used strict policing over the format of the threads.

what brand was used:

compound used:

dose used:

duration of cycle:

side effects:

results:

would you use again:

Rapz raised a good format. And to add, probably the biggest combat to shilling would also be verified blood-work.

Anyways, good on ya Pseudo for opening this can of worms. Interesting to hear some of the opinions!

Well I just said forum been better since banning it and it's true. That's just a fact like it or hate it. Topics aren't getting derailed etc.

But in saying I don't really care either way. Iv been using gear on and off for almost 10 years iv used almost every brand over that time. I know what is good and what is shit and I'm happy to share that. Some people can't handle hearing the truth though and that's the problem. And then I get accused of shilling lol. Ok everyone who uses gear sells gear that's also a fact the only difference is how much they sell. So you use gear and someone you know asks you to hook them

Up so you add $50 and sell it to them cause that will help pay for yours. It's just what people do, you're alreasy breaking the law using it so harm is there selling it.

It's like that member snoopy saying he uses 4grams of gear per week and looks the way he does then says that brand of gear is awesome and is the best value for money. Then when I say no it's rubbish people can't handle/accept it then it infects the whole forum outside of that topic.

Yeah so lets have a private invisible section for people with x number of years + post. Or a case by case invite to see the hidden section by pseudo. It's a small enough forum to do it and he knows who will benefit and who will shill.

Do you think I will shill?

It would be good to know what brands are considered quality and what to avoid I have to say coming from somebody whos only ever heard of a few but I can see the problem with what could happen on here between rival labs if one was to get a bad rap.

But as mentioned -

Brand A actually is good

Brand B gets relabelled as Brand A

or

Different batch of Brand A is rubbish.

or

Brand A diluted and re-sold

I don't see how brand reviews can work, other than reporting negatives.

i have a different scenario

Brand A is actually good

maccaz buys lupi olive oil and a label printer

maccaz crushes up dead flies he finds on window sill and mixes them with lupi olive oil and puts inside bottle labelled as Brand A

people buy maccaz special brand A and inject it in themselves and get acute fly toxicity

nek minnit everyone thinks brand A no good cos laced with flys

Exactly This happens all the time this is why when it comes to UG gear hearing reports about specific brands over an internet forum can not be taken as gospel because anyone can print a label you need to know your source. Newbies are easy targets and i don,t see that ever changing.

A persons decision on what gear they should or should not take should not be solely based on what they read on a forum.

Yup seen a AK47 turf war over gear brands one time. True story.
