Gym stars and legends

We've got the ever-popular Gym Weirdos topic, which is currently a 71-page catalogue of strange and annoying behaviours in the gym.

I had a moment tonight which made me realise that a topic going in the other direction was long overdue. So let's start a topic celebrating all the anonymous-but-awesome people in the gym.

I was doing shoulders, and getting ready for an overhead barbell press. I had just loaded a plate on one side of the barbell. Before I could walk around and put a plate on the other side, the young guy at the neighbouring squat rack had grabbed a plate, loaded it for me, and locked it on the bar with a collar. This guy was a total stranger to me - up until that point, we'd never exchanged a single word.

I thought that showed a fantastic awareness of what was going on (so many people are in their own self-obsessed little world at the gym), and an amazing attitude. In ten years of training, I can't think of another time an unknown gym member has ever done that for me.

It wasn't a big moment. But even little moments can have plenty of warm fuzzies. So thank you mate - you are a legend.

*good*

So what about the rest of you? How a gym member has helped you by doing something positive and unexpected?

Nice idea, Psuedo!

I'll have a think about this one, but can say that IMO little gestures like this can develop into some really cool friendships. I've made some of my best friends simply by spotting for each other on bench and so on.

Have couple of experiences with GC's at the gym.

When i had sorted out my shit and started to train properly i also started doing deadlifts. Now id just watched videos on the internet regarding form etc. So it was my first time, now everything was going alright/average haha.

So im doing the mike ohearn style power bodybuilding lifting 7sets x3reps. When a professional powerlifter came over and gave me a few tips.

Like push through your heels, lean back and let the weight balance you, chest out, mixed grip etc. Ever since then ive had pt's and other lifters compliment my form and my max rapidly increased.

When I was getting for the Pan's last year or my first ever comp some of the trainers at Les Mills Dunedin the home of Gym Rat baby were asking me how I was going with my prep each week or when I had talk to the gym through out the gym or any other gym staff.Which I thought was very nice to have to extra support
