Your barbell

Heya,

I couldn't find any barbell reviews in the search engine, so here goes:

I've been lifting for 2 years now and I'm currently in the search for my first barbell.  I'm after a bar that can do a bit of everything, which I'm sure will lead to a bit of compromise but them's the breaks.

I'm looking for a bar that'll survive a drop. Up until now, I've only ever attempted the big 3 lifts and I'm looking to branch out a little and try some olympic lifts. The gym I frequent doesn't have any bumpers plates (plus I'm sure they'd frown at the clanking).

Stats:

Male

32 years old

93 kg

My current 1RMs:

Bench: 105 kg

Squat: 152.5 kg

Deadlift: 180 kg

I don't need a bar that has silky smooth sleeves, I'm just after something that'll survive if I have to drop it and has a bit of headroom for coping with progressive overload.

So gimme your totally biased/unbiased opinion on barbells, what I should buy, and what you think rocks/sux.

Cheers!

So will you be rocking up to the gym with your own barbell? That's priceless! Biggrin

We had a good discussion on barbells a while back. It's probably still relevant:

i got the impression he was going to start up a home gym? but yeah used to know this guy who brought his own barbell to my old gym they kept it in a storage for him and got out when he came.. he did do some pretty big lifts though so was justifiable that he didn't want to have to deal with the bent up bars. it looked thicker than the stuff they had and it was black

Yeah, I wasn't very clear but it is for home use.

I've picked up a bar now. It's also a black beauty.

Initial thoughts are that scratches are going to show up like anything - but scratches are cool right? Sleeves are pretty smooth but I haven't had a chance to spend really put it through it's paces yet.

I'll post a review in a couple of weeks with full details if anyone's interested.
