Hey guys thanks for your comments. We are not privvy to the NZPF or APA calendar at all....so any cross overs are purely coincidental. Our comp is a push/pull rather than a 3 lift. Spectators have free entry.  Crossfit 275 is an awesome set up with great people so come along and see some big lifts!

  • 4 weeks later...

This isn't the first time either.

Yes, we're on something like 7 straight CAPO contests held on the exact same day as APA/NZPF events. Last year was apparently all coincidence. This year too. This is despite the NZPF calendar being released weeks before the CAPO one. And not only the dates, but both of them Novice events in South Auckland.

Anyway, GPC seem completely likely to win the battle of the untested feds. Cannibalise away.

Yes they only shoot themselves in the foot, my girlfriend and a group of ppl from her CF box are doing the nzpf novice comp on Saturday if this capo event was held a week later they all probably would have done it as well.

it's abit dumb.

So I went along and had a look. It was a neat event - really supportive crowd, and a good mix of lifters from very young to veteran. Apparently they had quite a few of the local crossfitters try their hand at powerlifting too.

For me, the best part is not the weight being lifted (although there were some impressive weights) - it's actually watching the athletes struggle and fight to get the weight up. That's where the drama is, and there was a lot of it on display here. One young guy had possibly the most epic struggle I've ever seen... I only started recording halfway through his lift, and the little bit I shot was 14 seconds long. The expression on his face when he finally hits the top is priceless!

Here's a quick and dirty edit of some of the deadlifts...

Thanks for filming this, Pseudonym.
The young lad you're speaking of is my youngest son. He was most definitely relieved to finally lock that deadlift out. Glad the gesture he made to the bar afterwards didn't make the video cut. :P

It was an awesome day albeit hectic doing the spotting/loading, but a lot of fun seeing all the competitors give it their all. There is some amazing raw talent out there and I can't wait to join them on the platform as one of the lifters again.
