I've been told (don't know how accurate it is though) that taking sugar pre-workout is actually self-defeating. The theory is that the sudden spike in blood sugar levels causes your body to produce loads of insulin to deal with it. If you're not careful, it does this too effectively in what's called a "glycemic crash", leaving you with a lower blood sugar levels (and less energy) than you had to start with.

i had a look in foodtown today for some glucose...there were 500 types of sugar but nothing that had GLUCOSE written on the packet....am i THAT stupid? Should i just be looking for raw sugar or something? or am i right to be looking for GLUCOSE...?

I believe it would depend on how much and what kinds of sugars you are using.

At any rate, used at the right time, all that insulin is going to pump all the lovely aminos/creatine etc into your muscles and provide a heaps of energy for a good workout.

If you are having a suger crash, you'll know about it.
