I wish TV3 would get quality kiwi artists to perform at Christmas In The Park.  Winners from the 2013 NZ Vodafone Music Awards would be a great place to start looking.  Aaradhna, Shapeshifter, Fat Freddy's Drop, Lorde, [insert favourite NZ Artist/s] to name a few.  The artists can perform a song from their current or upcoming album for promotional purposes plus perform a Christmas song putting their spin on it.  They did get Stan Walker though.

We also have dancers that have represented NZ and done very well in dancing competitions overseas.

I just think this event could be much better than what it has been since it started. But no. We're stuck with Frankie Stevens, Jackie Clarke, current and ex-TV-presenters, winners and losers from whatever TV talent show, and some unknown people that noone cares about. Shannon Ryan hot doe *blush*

Xmas in the park is a family themed event, the reason those bands you named arent there is because their style is nothing like what the general family is wanting. Its catared mainly for families with young ones going out to enjoy a picnic and the occasion.

I don't see why the artists I named should be ruled out for a family event unless they swear in their songs, prance around semi-naked, and dance like Miley Cyrus.

You cant understand why families would prefer to listen to xmas songs by the groups and singers they have atm instead of rock / alternative / punk / rap groups? Guess by your reasoning they should bring in opera singers for the BDO. They cater to a certain crowd, and that crowd likes the style and genre they currently play. You have to remember this is meant to be a xmas family event, aimed towards families and kids, not your late teens to early 20s groups.

Ron out the back of xmasin the park has been like that since it started. I remember walking around in my teens with a bag and a bottle of booze trying to avoid the cops so they wouldnt confiscate it. Just a massive piss up front of the museum.

My reasoning is that there's no comparison between the amount of exposure these artists get and the current crop of xmas 'entertainers'.  Award winning and/or nominated kiwi artists are exposed to these kids through plenty of radio airplay, music videos through TV (What Now?, Sticky TV etc) and Youtube, iTunes etc.  They're either world famous in NZ or internationally, so I'd consider them mainstream regardless of style/genre.

Young kids know artists like Pink, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Eminem, Rihanna and can sing along to many of their popular songs.  I wouldn't say that their target audience is kids?  And yet kids do listen to and enjoy adult targeted music.

What do you think the ratio will be between 'parents who would prefer to watch Frankie Stevens & Co.' VS 'award winning/nominated kiwi artists'? (Considereing that most parents with primary and kindy aged kids are under 40)
