Yo guys got another question here, ( I know I have a lot :P ) . Im gonna be buying more whey protein soon, the last one I bought turned out to be shit, tasted bad, didn't mix well and it was so hard to clean up the shaker and shit. I haven't finished it yet but I am at a point where I cant stand that shit anymore, havent had a protein shake in a week and still when I even think about it I feel like puking haha. This time Im actually going to put my money where my mouth is and buy a decent brand. So whats everyones favourite whey protein brands? If you could also list maybe some pros and cons about the one you use that would be awesome, price, taste, mixability (is that a word?). Appreciated

Cheers.

Yep I know exactly the type you're talkinag about - bad mixability, stickyness on lips, foul/chemical tastes, hard to clean up and excessive bloating very typical issues with protein (though found it more prominent in the 'mass gainer' types)...often it's not even the cheap ones so you can't even judge what's good by price or not lol.

Used to be a huge myofusion fan but after trying out other brands have noticed how crap it really is in terms of mixability, cleaning up, stickyness and bloating (though things might be different now that they have the new line of myofusion.. not that im willing to try it out anymore). currently i've been rotating between Axis Labs Clutch Whey Protein in chocolate cake flavor (very tasty choc) and CytoSport Complete Whey in Cocoa Bean flavor (imo their cookies n cream, choc banana and vanilla ones taste like crap, the Cocoa Bean is weak choco flavor but also natural choc tasting instead of chemical tasting if you know what i mean). Both are quite well priced and I consider them to be decent quality/taste. The way I compare them value wise is price per 100g protein.

Some of my comparisons data

  • Axis Labs Clutch : 5Lbs $89
    • 1680g Protein Total ( 70 serves x 24g protein per serve)
    • $5.30 per 100g protein
  • CytoSport Complete Whey : 5lbs $90
    • 1680g Protein Total (84 serves x 20g protein per serve)
    • $5.36 per 100g protein
  • Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey : 5lbs $119.94
    • 1920g Protein Total (80 serves x 24g protein per serve)
    • $6.25 per 100g protein
  • MyoFusion Probiotic : 5lbs $99
    • 1392g Protein Total (58 serves x 24g protein per serve)
    • $7.11 per 100g protein

* not affiliated with any supp shops or brands, not saying these are the best just the ones that I personally buy and like flavour of/think are good value for money both factors which are very subjective.

People say the NZ brands are really good. Have tried Nutrawhey in the past and it was alright, Balance and Horleys were pretty good but on the expensive side.

IMO best all round protein is ON Gold standard. Tastes great, mixes great, just all round good quailty. Not the cheapest protein around but for me its worth it.

If we are talking value for money I would buy nutrawhey, quite a weak taste but still mixes ok.And at $75/5lbs its good value. Good for those bulks where you find the bottom on the bag always comes around too quick *yes3*

I personally hate Gold Standard, I reckon it taste like chalk. I'm going ham on the myofusion choc-peanut butter at the moment Biggrin

They brought this line back? I know they stopped making it around 18 months ago, it used to be my fav flavour.

I didn't realise they stopped making it? I've still been seeing it around the supp stores. Although I do know that the probiotic series is being discontinued and I haven't tried the peanut butter cookie dough from the elite series yet.

mate you need to change shops! nz muscle has reasonable prices when they have sales, but their standard pricing is a bit to high! I pay $99 for gold standard( I dont like it anymore, far to chalky for my liking! Myofusion is 79, go to xtreme, nz muscle has a better range but imho is overpriced

My favourite at the mo is peanut butter cookie dough Myofusion Elite $79 ( wont pay anymore than that, as jack all servings in a tub) and Giant sports delicious protein peanut butter choc $80. I love my peanut butter! I tried Musclepharm Combat choc peanut butter and wasnt impressed, just tasted like choc!

yep you're right they're not always the cheapest on everything but they get good deals now and then plus their sponsorship keeps this site running.

Just an update, I decided to try  the Axis Lab Clutch and I am really happy with it. The chocolate cake flavour tastes really good but more importantly it is so easy to mix and clean up. It doesnt stick to my mouth either.

good one, loved clutch and looking forward to rotating back to it soon. that one in particular is proof that you don't always have to spend big $$ to get something of good quality/taste
