Training same body part every day

I keep reading where various body builders if they want to bring a body part up to par they'll  train the same body part every day..
That goes against everything I have ever heard or belive in..  Can anyone tell me what gives here? Can it be done?
Perhaps its only done by roid users?
I thought one had to recuperate muscle to let it heal and grow in size?

Anyone know what gives with this type of training?

Brick layers

Forestry workers

Eastern-bloc weight lifters

Either all of the above are robots living among us, and Tenascious D assures us that we don't have the technology yet, or the human organism is awesome and can adapt to far more than what us lazy city dwelling office workers ask of it.

Plenty of people do the same exercises all day long and never put on muscle like a body builder...

And I can assure you, you cant become a body builder just  by block laying lol
Nor can you build the sort of quality muscle we are talking about being a forestry worker..

Eastern-bloc weight lifters? Do they train the same muscle group day after day to failure?

I'm guessing if these guys do train the same muscle group every day they would have to train to well under the potential.. ie: not to failure every time...

Anyone else have some thoughts on this?

I thought the question was "can the same muscle group be trained every day?".

I've demonstrated that it can.  Entire populations of humans do it.  Strength and hypertrophic gains are made with daily training of a muscle group.

At least actually find out about Bulgarian and Russian weight training methods.

I get you want references and examples of people you've heard of (i.e. Arnold and his daily calf training).

Have you actually seen block layers forearms?  Roofers calves?  If tradies can gain crazy strength and good size from daily training, do you expect different biochemical processes for bodybuilders?

I'd worry about this when you are a lean 200lbs+.  It's an academic concern where the answer is of no consequence.  You may as well ask what happens when you perform the concentric part of a squat with the barbell moving at the speed of light.

Hey Kalidane, If you do read this again, I wasnt having a crack at you mate.. Please dont think I was...

I thought it was obvious what I meant considering I was posting in a bodybuiling / powerlifting forum...

Perhaps i wasnt clear enough so my apologies, I'll attempt to make this a little easier for every one to  understand..

Can body builders / power lifters train the same body part every day and Im not talking just calves or forearms.. ie. chest day after day.. Or legs day after day... And if so how would they do this? Im guessing not to failure every day..  I was always of the understanding that after training a big muscle group you would need 48 to 72 hours recovery time before training them again so I was quite surprised to read otherwise...

Here is a quote from one weight lifter as an example of what Im talking about..

"As a competitive Olympic lifter at that time,I'd been training for the sport for 3 year at that point, squatting every day, some times twice per day and doing lots of sled pulling"

I always thought this was a big no no.. Can anyone clarify?

And thanks Kalidane, Im off to google Russian Bulgarian weight training methods now....

i think as beginners at some point (usually early on in our journey) we must all have tried something similar to this? prime example benching or squatting 3~5 times a week.  assuming we had correct guidance at this point, we refine our technique and get better and better at consistently putting up more weight.. for a while anyway. just a guess that would be the basis for oly lifters at least when you see them spending hours in the weight room day after day on the same movement - mastering the technique and confidence required to keep out performing themselves.

as far as hypertrophy is concerned?  you gotta try higher frequency training yourself at some point and discover your personal recovery capabilies, will probably find a lot of myths will be shattered.  would suspect someone who is training daily to bring up a certain muscle group knows their body extremely well and might even be part of a desparate last few weeks pre show kind of plan but maybe some of those bbers here who have been to shows can highlight that better for us

for years I trained all body parts twice a week... never grew but then diet was poor.. I did make some good gains when I dropped that back to one body part per week.. I actually found  i made the best gains training the same body part every 8 days believe it or not.. But then I have had a really bad diet all my life so I think nothing I have learnt from past experience really counts due to diet was probably my issue.. now my diet is right I think a lot of experimenting is in order and its what Im kinda doing..

But before changing my current routine I think some research in to what Im going to be doing is good.. I would hate to start make stupid mistakes all over again at this stage of the game.. Easier to ask others thoughts before jumping in the deep end..  Cheers for the great post AGAIN FellowhsipOfTheRon.. You sir are most helpful..
