Over Fishing

I think I might have posted this on the old site a year or two ago. Not that it matters - it's a great vid, and the more people that see it the better.

Have you seen The End Of The Line?

I've cut right back on the amount of fish I eat now. Partly because of these docos, and partly because of peer-pressure from my scuba diving mates who are all pretty environmentally aware. I now avoid tuna totally, and just keep a couple of tins of salmon in the pantry for emergency meals. I figure that with tuna in particular, because it's a nomadic fish that moves around so much, it's impossible to assess just what the levels of tuna stocks are like, and it's irresponsible to keep eating it blindly without knowing when it might run out.

Sanfords NZ made headlines recently, claiming a new net that would allow more sustainable commercial fishing. I'm naturally a bit sceptical, but it looks pretty at least... Blum 3

Wow looks really interesting!

I don't think sustainable fishing is the right way of describing it though, when you have still over fish. Even with laws it could be hard to govern. As long as people are willing to pay good money for fish over fishing will always be around IMO.
