Prolapsed disks and kidney cysts

Just letting you all in on what’s been happening over the last few months....

Had an injury and can't quite workout when I had it, but been having these random sharp pains down the back of my leg similar to sciatica. So went to see a specialist and finally had an MRI done and found out that I have two prolapsed disks, one in L5 the other S1. We also found by pure change that I have a possible simple cyst in one of my kidneys. So any ideas about these disks??? I have been scaling my workouts and we have been building up my upper body and back. But any ideas on what my future may hold in regards to training, also anyone else with these??? Advice needed, yes I talk a hell of a lot of anti-flams and other analgesia to help with the pain.

Bugger, sorry to hear that, Andre. I was pleased to see you back, and was about to hit you up about our Crossfit Summer Challenge. But it doesn't sound like you're in any shape for that. :(

You don't think the kidney problems were caused by the amount of anti-flams and analgesics you're taking, do you?

This is just a generic patern that we see in clinic so your milage may vary...

Week 1 - 4 lots of pain killers needed quality of daily living is greatly impaired, 4 - 6 reduction of pain killers improoved daily living activity, 6 - 8 caseition of pain killers light physical conditioning recomended, between week 8 - 12 most patients are able to  retur to full function.

Just a general outline so don't take it to heart. You might do much better. Just like with most things in life... mental fortitude and the will to overcome will go a long way. However, I think it is only smart to  follow you PT's advice the best you can. Injuries do suck... Good luck!

SOunds very simalar to that the speciolist told me, as I have alredy been listening to my body while I have been waiting for investagations, and to see the specilist. I think I may carry on with that plan. Some days I am fine and can lift heavy, other times I struggle so I go light.

sorry to hear it man thats shit news..especially when they tell you it's something that will be recurrent for rest of your life :( what is the long term recovery plan? does that mean you won't be doing certain things any more, for example no more powerlifting or something?

welcome back here though and best wishes for your next chapter in the lifting world

Its just a little lump in my personal journey, okay so competiting maybe out of the question unless there is a scale then I might just be able to do that. Apart from that I am now slowly working out what I can and what I need to tweak until I get stronger. Crossfit is amazing and is keeping me moving and yes at this stage my lifts are crap, but its getting better and stronger each week.
