That shoulder exercise that looks like you're throwing a ball.

A mate of mine has been doing these with a high pulley cable. He loves them, but I'd never seen them before. I imagine it would hit front delts massively, although I wonder how good it is for the joint.

Has anyone seen these? Do you know the exercise I'm talking about? What do you think?

was the dude also going around bending pipes?

reminded me of the classic scene from Paradise Alley where Stallone was training his little bro victor for wrestling and told him to throw rocks to build up them delts.

Not sue what you mean, can you find a video of it?

Umm...

I've just Googled "cable shoulder throw", and the only video I can find is this one...

It's actually not a bad demonstration. Thank you, gay jock community. :P

I'm not sure whether loading the shoulder like this is asking for a rotator cuff injury, or could actually strengthen it. What do you reckon?

Yes there is definately potential for injury, but if you kept the weights lite and the person performing it was young it shouldnt be a problem........I remember someone saying ( i think it may have been Poliquin)

"When it comes to young atheletes  no movement can be classed as contraindicated, it comes down to a individuals genetic structure and capabilities".

I really like this ^

On the movement its self... In my opinion, it is a movement that many of us could do without. It seems to load the internal rotation part of the shoulder.

I think most of us spend already quite a bit of time during the day in an internally rotated shoulder postion infront of a desk, laptop or computer etc so the last thing we need to do is reinforce the very same patern that known to set people up for shoulder problems down the line.

Just my 10 cents ...

Lol worst exercise ever, probably wouldn't hurt the cuff too much, you'd just have to make sure you balance it with external rotation but that particular exercise is just asking for a SLAP tear.

You can do external rotations as heavy as you like so long as you have good form, probably not a good I dea to do them at all if you already have a slight tear though, best to wait for it to heal. But as prehab you can train it like any other muscle.
