BF% Estimate/Start cutting for the challenge now?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Sitting on 62.3kg today and started out at 58kg on 10th Sept so haven't gained a heck of a lot. The way it's going so far I figure there's no chance I'll place high but wanna finish what I started so going ahead with it. I definately want to keep on bulking quite a lot further but since I've commited my self to this Sumemer Challenge (Aesthetics : Most Improved category) I think it might be time to start a cut seeing as there's about 40 days to go.

My original goal was to be around 66kg at 8% but really just noticed how much time is left and don't think I'll be able to accomplish that! New goal is around 60kg at 8%, you guys reckon that's a reasonable target? Have never deliberately cut down past 14% (lowest I've been measured at so far) as never cared for skinny guy with abs look but come this Dec it'll also complete my 2nd year at the gym so keen to be the leanest, strongest, fastest and most muscular I've ever been.

Also here's some pics I took today, body fat % estimates and any advice/cutting strategies for the lower digits would be greatly appreciated!

(Still suck at posing any little pointers could be useful too *help*)

Cheers GymratNation

Look pretty good already man. I'd estimate 12-14% depending on lighting/water retention, leaning more towards 14% though.

I'd keep bulking if I were you but there's no harm in giving a cut a go. Shouldnt be too hard to get the abs showing.

On the double biceps poses, decrease the angle between your biceps and forearms so that your forearms are on a 45* angle instead of vertical. Supinate your hands as much as possible to bring out the peak. On the front double biceps, you have your hands pronated which works well to show off the thickness and fullness of the biceps but your arms aren't big enough to do that yet. So turn them in to get dat mountain peak.

On the most muscular and the ab thigh pose, exhale and crunch hard when you hit the pose. You don't want any air in your belly. Also on the ab thigh, I like to put the hands lower towards the base of the neck as it squeezes the arms more and makes them look a bit bigger.

On that side pose, put your weight on your front foot instead of your back foot. Your back foot should be up on it's toes. Twist your shoulders around so that you are facing forward as much as possible. Create as much twist as possible. This will give the impression of wide shoulders while narrowing the waist.

+1 to everything Leeroid said. Those are some excellent posing tips right there.

You're doing the classic Arnie pose in your front double biceps. It's a great pose, but unfortunately you need to be Arnie's size to carry it off! Most of us mere mortals have to stick to the regular "hands turned in" version.

lol thanks Pseu and Leeroid that comment about the front double bi pose reminds me of arnold explaining to lou (or was it franco) in pumping iron something like "if you cant hit it dont do it" hahaha.

also thanks a lot Leeroid for those tips on posing, that gives me a lot to practice up on in the new few weeks *mail1*
