Where to find a powerlifting belt in NZ?

Hey guys,

Looking for a pretty decent quality powerlifting belt for sale in NZ. Preferrably a 10 or 13mm thick belt, not really worried about prong vs lever. Ideally somewhere in Hamilton or maybe Auckland so that I could try on for size, but anywhere is good really. Waist size around a 32.

Thanks

Hi,

You can buy the outbak one at elitefitness on Anglesea St (Hamilton). They are perfectly adequate for most people. However, I have never liked those belts as their quality is not very good and I have seen too many steel buckle breaking. Personally I will order one from Inzer/ Titans/ Elitefts/ Rogue and ship it in through youshop (NZ post service that ship items you buy from the US for a reasonable price).

Hope it helps.

Never had any problems with Outbak belt, the buckles seem super thick so don't see how they're likely to break?

Mine definitely broke - you could hear the ping-tinkle as the loose bit of metal flew across the gym.

The buckle's not steel rod, just bronze or brass (some yellow metal anyway), and one corner fractured at the bend, the other one let go under double the normal load.

I bought another one, the buckle's definitely not steel (magnet test), and it'll do for a spare for high-rep work, but I don't know that I'd trust it for heavy singles.

The GetStrength website has some good belts and has a good sale on at the moment on quick release belts for $60.00. I have had some good stuff from them and can recomend their service.

*Logo must be covered in competition*

That could be kind of a minor annoyance.

Them's the rules [ http://www.powerlifting-ipf.com/fileadmin/data/Technical_Rules/2013_Technical_Rules_english.pdf ]- besides, a bit of duct tape over it won't hurt.  But of course if it's a sponsor's logo (i.e. Titan, Inzer, Metal, Rehband and a few others), those logos are OK because they sponsor the IPF.
