thats a great goal mate - 3 times bodyweight deadlift.  Im taking a break through till start of January too - may do a bit of cardio lol.

Gives you plenty of time for you to condition slowly and maintain your strength.  Have you given any thought to how you will do it?  I have swapped between CBL and plain old carb cycling this year and for the most part maintained my strength.  Next year my weight wont fluctuate much so Im hoping this will translate in steady strength gains on account of not having to run deficit cals.

Here are my videos. Unfortunately i could not lift as much as i wanted but i am a week out from the Oceanic and commonwealth championships so today these are my openers for the big day.

Out of interest, Abbey, what do you reckon your max lifts would have been? I'm just curious to see how Wilks would have placed you if you were going hard out. Because you made those lifts look like a warmup set!

Yeah bro im goin to try duin cardio aswell, i havent tryed CBL before but mite give it ago , im pretty bad when i comes to losin weight coz i over du it and lose massive amounts just to desperatly get to my weight class especially for my armwrestling comps and just lucky enough to manage to always win it.

Powerlifting is new to me 1st time giving it ago, iv always loved benchpress, but i havent trained squats for about 20 or so years when i was a kid and and even then i didnt know what i was doin, this is the 1st time iv ever trained deadlifts coz iv never liked them but now love duin them.

My training style is way different to everyones but it works for me and my training partner with massive results within the 3 months of training for the comp on here.

Im also lookin at tryin some strongman training aswell which looks fun, gee i even want to try crossfit, love to give everything a try but powerlifting seems like the one that suits me so far.

Awesome bro - saw your post on fbook.  Good support around you too.  Bench and Deadlift are my strengths - squat the opportunity.  In  saying that I have had the most growth in my legs in the last few years switching to powerlfiting training.  (531).  I did my first gym lift 2 years ago and squated 240kg - was the first time ever I had put more than 210kg on the bar.  Have had a few injuries this year which is frustrating but have added 50kg to my total on Last year despite the set backs.  (720kg at Nationals).

Squats will come bro - your bench set up similar to mine and your deadlift is strong too - if you can dial in your squat your deadlift will progress faster and vice versa.  Well this is what I have experienced.  The two lifts go very much hand in hand.  Took 3 comps to lockout a 300kg lift - yours will come with experience too.  Going to be a very competitive lifter bro - keep at it.

:)

Am I the only one that thinks that this squat was too high? I voiced my concerns with Pseudonym in a PM after watching it but he doesn't seem to be taking any action so I'm posting this here to get other people's opinions.

In the rules of this competition on the first page, it states: "You must break parallel (hip joint must be below the knees)" which is basically the same rule regarding depth as in a proper powerlifting competition.

Having competed in both the IPF and CAPO federations (IPF being notorious for being very stringent on squat depth) and having watched and analysed thousands of squats in the 3 years that I have been powerlifting,  I can say that in my honest opinion, Majorflavaz squats would not have passed in a real powerlifting competition. Here is the lowest point of his squat:

Majorflavaz%20squat_0.PNG

The black line is parallel with the ground. The red line is connecting the two depth markers, the hip crease, and the top of the knee cap. This squat is approximately 12* above parallel.

My 220kg squat was only 1 degree below parallel and would only just have passed in a powerlifting competition due to my knees coming forward a considerable amount, thus increasing  the degree of knee flexion required to reach depth.

Here is a diagram illustrating the judging of depth :

SQUAT.jpg

Proper depth is illustrated below:

squatc.jpg

It is a well known fact that the deeper you go, the harder it is for you to recover from a squat (there is an exception, a squat technique known as divebombing). Each degree above parallel makes the squat that much easier. I know that I can squat a lot more when I squat high as I've tried this just for argument's sake. Back when I tried this experiment, I was able to squat my proper depth 1RM for 7 half squat reps easily.

I think that Majorflavaz should be asked to perform his squat again to a proper depth as I feel that it is unfair to have one person who is allowed to squat above parallel when the rest of the competitors have squatted to proper depth. It is also in the rules that you must squat below parallel. I have watched his 5RM entry for the Novice category and none of those 5 reps was even close to reaching proper depth either.

Montz, this is nothing personal and I hope that you don't hold it against me. I just want the competition to be fair. This is why I wanted to have a squat session with you beforehand to make sure you knew what proper depth was. There's no denying that you're a very strong man, especially considering only 6 months of proper training. Your bench and deadlift in the open category was good (slight hitching in the 4th and 5th rep of novice deadlift though).

Yea bro,s  iv watched all our vids and thought myself ,Leeroid and Opti had lil issues with our form in one of the exercises we had to do , that 245kg was done after already about 40min on squats and duin 3 singles on 240kg then tryed this weight which may have been high due to already lack of energy and warn out legs and even before hitting this i had done half hour on benchpress same on the 5rep one did full chest workout then squats for an hour before duin my 5rep vid i dont know the professional rules for 5 rep powerlifting and it was only a novice class and were allowed use straps which i chose not to ,i ended up duin all my 3 lifts inside a one n a half hour time frame. lol I had a crazy workout week last week trained everyday for 2 to 3 hours mon to sun 1st time and last time now body payin for it this week broken ass, bak, shoulders and just gettin over feelin sik, so yep algud ill do anuther vid hopefully on sunday hopefully

( hmmm think creatine, protein powder and pre workout not doin it enough for me i think may have to turn to the dark side just for this week lol) anyone got any spare money lol !!!

Might be good idea if you do anuther deadlift to comp standard from what iv read you and Opti talkin about just incase i dont crack a low enough squat then the prize will go to you, or even if Opti does a deeper squat it may go to him, i noticed flaws our vids but didnt think it would matter but im swt as with it ill do a squat this Sunday when body feels atleast 100%. So tempted to do today even tho im sik and sore lol hmmmm.

not taking anything away from MF cos your a strong mother but i do agree with the Leeroid's squat argument and good examples shown.  its actually one of the whole reasons i didnt enter the powerlifting categories because my squats would be questionable at times.

Mate, it's not that I'm not taking action. I needed to get some other opinions on this, which takes time. They agreed with you, and so I asked Majorflavaz to resubmit his video - as I said in my last PM to you...

Fair enough. Not being a powerlifter, I'm a bit out of my comfort zone here, so thanks for the diagram.

I'll ask for another squat vid from him.

I've given him until Sunday (when then rest of the Challenge closes) to get a new video up.

BTW, Leeroid - I was impressed with the way you raised the issue with me (and you weren't the only one to do so). I don't believe it's a case of sour grapes. Trust me, I know both you guys have worked hard for this, and I want to make sure that the prize goes to the right person.

Sorry Pseudo, I totally understand but as there was no activity in these threads, I didn't know whether you were doing anything or not. So I decided I had better raise the issue before too much time passed and it was too late. I appreciate your efforts.

I call sour grapes

Just let it be.  Shot MF!

Sour grapes it may be, but with such a big prize on the line, I'd be an idiot to let it go that easily. Especially if I felt that it was unfair. I've been losing sleep over this lol!

So the comp has been extended then?  You are accepting more entries till Sunday?

I think we're only giving the guys that already entered a second chance as it would be unfair to simply disqualify their lifts lol.

That's my understanding, but maybe he has extended the competition? Can you please clarify this, Pseudo?

If the squats not deep enough then it doesn't count. So that lift is disqualified.

simple.

if you don't hit depth in a powerlifting comp you don't get another chance. It's called bombing. So I dunno what all this shit is about re submitting lifts just makes it into a joke. You've got the rules they should be adhered to.

the prize should go to the runner up whoever that is.

Hey Realtalk im only new to this kind of training and lookin at Leeroids pic of my squat i didnt realise it wasnt low enough, but if was a proper powerlifting comp like your talkin about most people start out with an easier lighter weight for there 1st lift then build up to a max lift on there 3rd if there other 2 are successful but if the other 2 are not successfull dont you still get a chance to du it again, so i would of started at 200 or 220 then having this 245kg on my 3rd lift if was proper powerlfiting rules but this isnt, this is not proper powerlifting rules anyway as even our benchpress is touch n go without a pause.

I showed my vid to Pseudo before submiting it and even he sed he would accept it and post it.

I only showed him 1st becauze i didnt want to be embarrest if it was wrong as iv never ever done a video of any weightlifting, sori guys if thats a terrible squat.

Thanx to the guys that didnt wory about my squat, and very lucky Soundsgood didnt enter or its over for everyone lol
