Hi, is it possible to use some sort of device or program that lets you easily input foods to calculate your macro and specific micro nutrients?

I've been using my fitnesspal BUT I would like to all  so track ALOT of other micro nutrients. I cannot see how to add more micro nutrients to monitor on myfitnesspal.

I would like to track the following in units(mg ug etc.)

Calcium, Ca
Iron, Fe
Magnesium, Mg
Selenium, Se
Phosphorus, P
Potassium, K
Sodium, Na
Zinc, Zn
Copper, Cu
Manganese, Mn
Fluoride, F
Vitamins
Vitamin C, total ascorbic acid
Thiamin
Riboflavin
Niacin
Pantothenic acid
Vitamin B-6
Folate, DFE
Vitamin B-12
Vitamin A, RAE
Vitamin A, IU
Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol)
Vitamin D (D2 + D3)
Vitamin D
Vitamin K (phylloquinone)
Lipids
Fatty acids, total saturated
Fatty acids, total monounsaturated
Fatty acids, total polyunsaturated
Cholesterol
Other
Caffeine

Thanks.

I would try emailing fitnesspal.. Explain that their site is used by a lot of bodybuilders and its often recommended on this site.. Ask them if they can make it a little more user friendly for your needs and explain what you would like them to do..

They seem keen to try to better their site so they may just oblige.. Well worth a shot..

The problem is the micro-nutrient breakdown is dependant on what's input into the database, and in most cases the data is just taken off the nutritional label which doesn't usually state it. I've used the mynetdiary app and it does list micros on it, but you'd really end up having to input all your foods into the database with updated micros to make sure they're all accurate.

This

I dont think you would find a very good calorie tracker that has all the available micronutrient data - unless you paid for a very high profile one.

Your best bet is to list out the foods you eat and the micronutrients they contain - which ones you are following in particular (as not all are an issue defficiency wise)... get to know them and what foods will sort you out, see what you are having one by one and the best sources. Then plan more into your diet accordingly?

E.g Make sure you're hitting 1-2 cups dairy for some calcium

nice bit of beef for dat iron and B12 (veg will account for rest of iron)

2-3 cups spinach (or as much as you can) for most other vits and minerals.

A range of other veges/nuts.

A nice pink himalayan salt for dat iodine and potassium.

Prettty much if you're eating chicken, beef, veges and dairy theres no real way you'll be deficient in anything?

Pretty much have yourself covered?

Hi, I looked at mynetdiary but it has it in %.

Is there really no application that I can use to manually input foods and all the detials I want to use with them and track them?

This is only for research btw, I don't tbh really care about the details.

Im thinking about using excel but I've never really used it b4 and using a dedicated program would be easier and look better I would imagine.

Contact a university nutrition department and see what they use. There will be databases and programs out there - but they might be expensive.

I dont know what you mean by research but personally if I was wanting to document whether I was getting certain vitamins and minerals I would write a diet out and google the content of the foods I was having and literally have to write it down and maths that shit out. E.g mineral profile in 100g white rice then calculate how much rice i have in a day... etc.

Cant really think of another way. Other than a computerised version of this say in excel. Other option, if you are near a university, is to hire an asian who is really good at excel etc to program that shit for you (no racist).

I emailed uni and they linked me to "foodworks 7" it has a database for NZ and AUS foods. Its like excel and adds up all the macros and micros for you.

@chemo I Just need to look at any poor areas in my diet over 3-4 weeks and then adjust.. For uni.

Awesome, thanks for sharing.

Hopefully the 14 day trial will be good enough as its about 2k for the software wow.

Maybe a/the nutrition department computer/s would have it loaded onto, though?
