Yes, some of the early shows do have low numbers and its very hard to predict in advance because there is a higher proportion of first-timers as most experienced/regular competitors prefer to peak once a year and do a late qualifier if they want to also do Nationals.

I did the NABBA Nelson show last year which I think had 13 competitors. Very small numbers, but still a fun show and well run and supported.

Speaking of numbers, I'm expected over 40 competitors at the NZFBB Wellington Champs this Saturday, which is awesome. Last year we had 23 and the previous year 49. Another example of how hard it can be (esp trying to budget for the event as the organiser) to predict how many people will compete.
