knowing the benefits of TRT, how many of you are going on TRT when your natrual level drop? :-)

I think for a lot of people who want to remain as active as they were in their younger years the idea of HRT is very attractive. Some of the older competitive guys might not be able to explore this as an option due to their individual federations rules and regulations.

For my part I like to stay with the bodies natural processes, if staying active and just working hard and adhering to good nutrition is the best I can then hopefully it is enough. I prefer to think that mental strength will help me maintain my peformance levels to a certain degree :)

So no HRT for me.

If only it were that easy. I.d say NZ doctors are no where as knowledgeable about HRT or TRT as USA docs are. Anti aging is big in the states, testosterone is often used soley as an anti aging drug for men. There is no biological free lunch tho, everything comes with a price tag!

So what happens if you find your self tired every day, struggling to get off the couch.. TV seems a much more enjoyable option that going to the gym. Life it self just seems like one big bore... No matter what you do at the gym you just cant seem to gain any traction. No muscle gain, your cardio just seems to get worse all the time and it all becomes a big struggle.. Would you reconsder then?

Sounds like you need anti-depressant not test Geeky! *biggrin*

Everyone that trains assumes its a test issue - plenty of older guys not TRTing that are in great shape and train hard. I bet all of them dont have exceptional endogenous test levels....just sayin.

That said I think TRT is a good option if clinically determined as the right pathway for someone and it is done properly (i.e. not internet guru recommendations)

Anti depressant? , nope you'r way off the mark there Nate.  TRT did the trick for me and worked wonders.. Tell you what though, I see plenty of old guys dragging their asses around our gym and really struggling.. Some of them been there for  a few  years. You see them on and off. Not making any gains, just dragging them selves around looking sorry for them selves.

I have got matey with a couple that i have gone up to and tried to get them to do some research on TRT  but its just in one ear and out the other which is a shame. Can lead a horse to water etc..

Of course Im not talking about all them.. There's one at our gym who's in his 70s and still spars .. Absolutely amazes me.. Wouldnt have believed if I hadnt seen it with my own eyes. Pushes ok weights for his age too.. There seem to be some that are just going to stand out.  I wish I knew about TRT when my dad was still around. From his mid 50s the old coot lay on the couch watching TV.. Every time you would suggest something, it was all too hard for him. Im betting TRT would have got him off the couch. I do think its miracle cure for a lot of the oldies if they would only look in to it.

I.ve suffered depression and anxiety for years, since I was born I think. even before John Kirwan came along I.d realised the importance of exercise for myself. Iam like the energiser bunny, I need to burn myself out daily or else I go farkin mad. Have been on everything you can think of to help the big D. Little has worked. Also I have taken testosterone, I loved it. However everything I.d thought I.d gained...sense of well being, calmness, libido, huge massive 14inch erections, lol...confidence ect did not go away after I stopped taken test. My point is yes it did help me feel better [and half the reason I took it was for these effects]  but was it wishful thinking, my test levels have dropped back to pre-cycle amounts, meaning it must have been in my head. Yet I still feel great, in fact better than when I was even on test.

Hormones have there place and the price tag Iam talking about is everything EVERYTHING has side affects. From panadol to morphine...Sometimes you wont even know what the sides are till you have a period away from the drug. The side affects to hormones can be quite nasty, as in affecting your mood. Apart from rec drugs I myself have never been affected as much from a drug as Letrozol. I say this because it gave me a huge insight into having no estrogen. It farked my hormones [which was what I was trying to do] right up, allowing me to have the horrible privalige of being mad, depressed and temp losing all the benefits of testosterone. Iam a bit of an over thinker, and often I study hard what effects a drug will have on me. Iam very sensitive to most things. Will I use test again...hell yes. But Iam 100% awhere of the price I can and do pay, plus Iam 47.

If I understand your read correctly Murhf - I wasnt for a minute suggesting TRT was a cure for depression. .Depression probably has many other causes apart from low TRT and I think a far better way to help some one who is depressed, at least  for the average person with depression - would be exercise. I think thats  fairly well proven now..

I was more talking about the older guys that have low levels of Testosterone..  As you age your test levels drop..Obviously if your test levels get to low you are going to feel fairly lethargic and if your test levels get too low,  having personally experienced it, depression like symptoms, possibly even real depression.

I can remember coming off test (being an idiot and had no idea what i was doing)  I just sat there day after day sitting at a blank PC screen thinking I should be doing something but just didnt know what.. I wasnt working at the time.  I would drive to the gym, stare at the gym then drive away again thinking it was all too hard.

Mind you that is the extreme end of low TRT, having more or less just finished a cycle and going cold turkey but not having a clue what I was doing.  If only I had of known about PCT..

But of course Im not saying all oldies will get that bad.  As I said there are some that just blow me away at the gym. But there is no doubt about it, some of the older guys that are just dragging their sorry ass's around the gym day after day looking like the would rather be some place else, gee, I would love to see what sort of change there would be if they started on TRT

No I understand that, I myself was looking at ways to help my depression. Testosterone is the males elixcya [spell check] of life. Overseas they understand this so much more. Trouble is finding the balance. Iam a advocate for TRT, and extremly interested in all the research you have done. Altho I have no low test [natrually] I have certainly felt the huge lack of libido and energy from being depressed. The answer to help rid my depression was soley staying away from doctors, getting off the shit they prescribed and eating healthy, plus exercise. As simple as that, tho it took 10 years of hell to see the light. Keep up the great posts.

lol, trust me.. Im just blundering my way through all this.. Now and again when I get too far off track, some of the knowledgeable ones like Chemo etc, give me a slap around the ears and steer me back on the right track. Education was never my strong suit but I'll keep trying to learn and I'll keep posting.. Hopefully some of it is worth while..  cheers Murhf..

re depression, good on you for having the nouse to sort it.. I got a mate with depression at the moment.. I have been trying to get him to the gym with me. Even tried just giving him pad work to get him started on some exercise but he doesnt want to know about it.. Just keeps swallowing the bright little pill the quacks keep giving him..  For some exercise just seems way too hard to fathom.
