Fast & Slow Metabolisms

I think you would be surprised how many people here started over weight. It's the reason I started going to the gym, people that are comfortable with their body's often don't have the same motivation to get started. I look at it as an advantage, fuel for the fire

yes but that was why I started going to the gym in the first place too.. never helped me to lose weight though and I have absolutely trained my ass off..   But Im looking at my years in the gym from every angle I can see where I have made lots of mistakes if Im perfectly honest with myself..  Probably been a real fool to myself over the years as I just ignored what every one else was doing and pretty much did my own thing..

For the first year I went to the gym I lived on salads.. Almost zero protien and bench pressed every day. Could never figure out why the skinny little dude next to me was pushing twice as much..  No instructors or anyone to tell me different anyway.. Too thick to research or ask.. Just trained.

Trained like that for a year until my shoulder finally gave out under  protest of stuff all nutriton..  crazy eh?

As I said, been doing a lot of soul searching and research in other forums etc and I am starting to realise I could be totally wrong in all Ihave thought about being overweight..  Anyway, I have nothing to lose by listening to you guys. I can always drop calories later if I dont feel its working for me..

ok enough bullshit from me.. cheers guys.

... I still dont understand how it can be that there are set calories for losing weight for everyone....

I don't know exactly what you mean here, but in practise it's probably more nuanced than this.  The body is too awesomely complex to expect a lot of linear relationships in how any of it works.

Altogether too many words so far with a great pile of confusion the only result.

Shall we do a case study?

Have you established your maintenance calories?  By this, I mean are you tracking your diet and observing your weight?

If this first step hasn't happened yet, then all the words and theories in the world are of no use.

I was actually thinking the same thing.. Use me to see what is true..  But Im coming aorund to suspecting you guys are right..    I have been eating far more then I normally eat and Im losing weight.. How the F*&^ does that make sense...

So I have come to the conclusion I have blindly been eating calorie dense foods in the past.. less food but more calories perhaps?..  Maybe people like myself  just dont realise what they eat day in day out????  Bah, stuffed if I know..

But then how do people like my mate, drink piss all day long, lay on the couch eating junk food not get fat?   I confess its confusing...

And yep tracking calories and everythign I eat....  First week dropped over 3kg..

Second week didnt lose anything but that I think was down to a bad couple of days I had a bad cold and just ate crap food.. Too sick to care - This week will be interesting to what happens..

Funny thing, I was in the gym this morning chatting to some of the guys, I chose a couple of the bigger guys that I knew and asked them their thoughts.. They said the reasons why some people lose weight more than others was down to people having diffrerent metabolisims..  So I dont think i can be blamed for thinking this.. Apparently its common knowledge even amongst body builders.

First I heard of it not being the case in here...
