How can I deadlift without breaking myself?

Find a senior physio who specialises in lumar spine, or sports med doctor

Tick.

and follow thier advice and take responsibility for all the rehab....

Ah, yeah. About that... :P

Like I say, I know what the cause is, and I've only got myself to blame for it! Too much time sitting slouched opens up the vertebrae and allows the discs to bulge out the back. Then I go and put a load on it, and that's when bad things happen. Solution: don't slouch, and do the preventative exercises. Easy, really...

I swear by Inversion tables.  The current model I have is made by MediFur and is on trademe new for $169.

Physios?  Not sure how many agree with me, but I think Osteopaths every time. Old school Osteo's I find absoltuely brilliant.. Just a shame they are so expensive..

Bloody injuries so frustrating.. I got a sore shoulder and and bad golfers elbow.. Out of training for the moment wondering how to handle it..  So damn frustrating..

Going to just my weights drastically and very slowly work up using pain barrier as threshold..

When are they going to invent a magic pill to fix injuries.. :-(

I don't know where in Auckland your based psudo, but in the medical complex on sunset rd ( eastcoast bays rd end ) is an osteo clinic. The guys name is Paul he is an Osteo tutor at the unitec, so he isn't always there. But has done wonders for me in the past ( haven't seen him for over two years now, he seems to fix problems ). I just refered a guy from our gym with a neck issue who has come back very happy.

I always found the pricing very similar to physios, so who knows

Thank you fng, I'll go check him out myself.. Been looking for a decently priced Osteo..
I have had far better sucess with them than I have ever had with Physio's. Problem being here on the Shore, Osteo's being sort after, normally charge $40 on top of ACC..  Physio's much cheaper..
Osteo's are in demand..

Will check out the guy you mentioned to see what sort of price..

Thanks or the heads up..

I normally go to a Chinese cliinc. They spend a full half hour on massage affected area.
Another 15 min putting heat packs on the affected areas.
Then finish off with 15 minutes of what they call cupping. Until last week, completely free with ACC..  They have  just put a $10 surcharge on.
The great thing about them is you can walk in any time of the day with out an appointment..

Rolland Jefferies Physio charges $15 on top of ACC..

I think the Osteo would be of far more benefit that either of those options but at $40 a visit it starts to mount up. Hmm, might go give this Paul Twiggs a shot anyway.. Desperate for a fix..

cheers FNG..

Physios?  Not sure how many agree with me, but I think Osteopaths every time.

As it happens, my sister is an osteopath. Unfortunately, she's in the South Island, so booking a treatment from Auckland is a bit tricky.

As for physios, I've also been to the Roland Jeffery clinic. They're very sports-focused, so they're quite familiar with the types of injuries we'd be likely to come in with. I can recommend Justin Lopes.

I have had treatment from Justin.. I stopped using Rolland Jefferies due to they mostly offer very little hands on stuff. Im a huge fan of hands on manipulation and massage.. (Osteo's not Chiropractors) Anyway, good luck with it Pseudonym.. Hope you get it sorted.. Injuries are so frustrating eh? Im pulling my hair out at the moment not being able to train properly..

Hmm extending onto this a little maybe someone can give me some advice.

Up until about 3-4 weeks ago i had just been doing stronglifts without any real intent, over the past month have started going pretty heavy on the 3 main lifts. Had never really stretched in the past (maybe a few statics thrown in randomly) and definitely no foam rolling. After about 2 weeks or so of the heavy stuff everything started feeling really tight. Hips, hams, glutes (especially where hams/glutes meet, right under the butt cheek - top of the leg).

I am mostly sitting and I've found that my lower back can get quite stiff after an hour or two of sitting. Like bending over/forward it really pulls in my lower back - just to note there is absolutely no pain, just muscle tightness. After a few reps of bending forward/back everything losens up and its sweet as.

Are my hips/glutes/hams causing the lower back tightness? and what can be done other than the stretching I now do daily. I've also noticed i have a little Anterior Pelvic Tilt which I would assume is from the tight hip flexors etc?

Want to get this sorted ASAP so i can get back into the swing of things without snapping my shit up. Again there is no pain in the back during any sort of movement. Have done the slump test as well without any pain in my back - Just tightness in my hams and glutes.

Edit: im not sure no pain is the right phrasing. Like stretching a tight muscle has 'pain'. Bending forward after sitting for a while would be a 1/10 if i had to give it a rating. It's like a discomfort?

stretch, stretch, stretch... I think stretching would be one of the most important things you can do.. I have the same issues as you when i really step up leg press etc. Only thing that really helps is stretching.. I spend at least 15 to 20 minutes stretching every gym session I do.. If I dont, I get as stiff as a board.
