Horleys Crossfire thoughts?

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to get your thoughts on Horleys Crossfire protein. I am just about finished (roughly 500g left) with my first 3kg pack banana (10/10 flavour) and just getting some other input on what people thought of it and if I should buy some more. My best mate who lives in Australia said that Horleys is good value for money and initially recommended it to me since its made in NZ..? I have seen some great progress in myself over the last few months after getting back into the gym this year, after finally recovering from a near fatal appendix surgery last july 2012.

I have tried some other proteins in the past and some have given me a bad anaphylaxis type of reaction (havent had a reaction in around 3yrs...so maybe i have gotten over it?), but im pretty iffy when choosing another protein. I did try a sample of the Isoflex protein...no reaction. I started with Horleys Mass Gainer but the fellow at the shop said Crossfire is a better whey protein.

Im 24 years old, 6"4 @ 92kg (roughly 18% BF - most around the abdomine...the whole skinny-fat build), but i still get called skinny and lanky by my mates. Into my bulking phase atm...already 2kg on in the last few months and pushing to put on 5-8kg by the end of the year.

Your thoughts on Horleys Crossfire? Maybe recommend a better protein and i could scout out a sample from one of the shops.

I liked crossfire. I have IBS and react badly to some proteins like myofusion and other ones that have a heap of crap and ingredients in and less pure versions of milk proteins rather than just "whey" and "caesin" and flavourings. But crossfire was pretty good for me.

The best I have found for my digestion is Optimum nutrition.

I've had reflux before in the past but it hasnt really been brought on by protein specifically but I can definitely tell than ON is one of the best quality protein you can get digestive wise. ON also do a "natural" version which you can still get flavoured but it has no artificial flavours etc - which could be an option if its some of the flavourings that you are reacting to.

Another option is to have something alkali with the shake - like having a lemon water (squeeze lemon in water) with the shake or before the shake, or start doing this more often/continuously to help neutralize the acidity in your stomach.

And before you think im some rich person who has the money to throw round on ON stuff - I'm a student and I've used dirt cheap protein for years and I can definitely tell the difference digestion wise or I wouldnt pay the price. but I definitely think a protein powder that agrees with you is worth spending the money on.

Interesting. I dont get digestive problems from proteins and I'm not too sure its bad reflux, nor do I even know what the hell gives me this reaction. I am 100% sure I get the reaction from small stone fruits such as apricots, plum, peaches and nectarines but what does a fruit have in common with a protein?

Some reaction include swelling of the throat, increase production of mucous, throbbing/sharp at the base of the throat, tingling tongue/mouth (usually the first thing to happen) and I dont have a treatment for it, just lie down and wait for it to leave (1-2days). I have had a broad test from the Drs but they still don't know what the hell is wrong, so I just avoid fruits/foods like that in general.

Hmm. well then I guess its best to go with pro that have the least ingredients because then you're less likely to find some unnatural derived from the things you are allergic to?

Fruits dont have much in common with protein but some of the added ingredients might.

But noone can tell you which pro might give you allergy you just have to try it and then find another one if it does...

Yeah its pretty weird. Im only allergic to small stone fruits (only when i ingest them, touching them is fine), but not mangos or larger stone fruits. I was going to get the skin prick test done but they were pretty much booked over the christmas break and never really got round to doing it.
