Modafinil

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I've been hearing highly positive things about it and the internet makes it sound effective and clean.

So does anyone here have personal experience with modafinil?

Going to have a chat to the GP about it tomorrow...

Good stuff thanks Murhf.

Events did not quite go to plan.  The GP both couldn't and wouldn't prescribe.  Only a neuropsychologist and something else can prescribe it in NZ.  Also, she had no interest in prescribing it preventatively.  Aaand it's only indicated for narcolepsy and daytime somnalence.  Not so much focus on quality of life and preventative medicine then.

I could, in theory, do 6 months of 0100 hours starts then see a specialist and talk up the daytime somnalence thing but I've already done this work for 4 years and I'll not get zombified again; even for 6 months.

Disappointing outcome/10

Are you working overnight shifts? They're nasty. Do you stay on overnights permanently, or do you cycle around different shifts?

It's a permanent thing, though I left the role early last year and am heading back to it next week.  Having quit the job twice already I expect I'll only get to do that once more lol

Keen to manage the lifestyle much better than in the past.  I'm thinking that sleeping from 1100-1800 looks more functional than what I attempted in the past 1700-midnight.

Well, I suppose that at least lets your body clock adjust. When I worked overnights, it was 3-4 nights on, followed by 3-4 nights off. It was horrible - you'd just acclimatise to one shift, then you'd have to switch back again.

One thing I found really helpful was tanning on a sun bed.

Also doing my workout late at night before work seemed to help me stay awake.

Yeah that chopping and changing is not good either.

I'm defo keen to try out the sunbed plan.  It's a small price to pay if it makes a real difference.  Hopefully be seeing someone soon who knows a bit about such things.

Definitely see training before work as the way to go.  Getting to sleep shortly after training in the morning would not be a super plan!

YouTube search Tim Ferris Modafinil.

very cool talk with him and joe rogan.

ive had a mate who tried it (prescribed in aus) and said the effects weren't that great with the 100mg tabs and as for productivity he did get something out of it but it wasn't something that say a Ritalin or amphetamine type stim would help with.

That said, I still want some toooo. Ive already been scammed once trying to get it. Not ideal lol.
