Do you collect "goal pics"?

Recommended Posts

I recently rediscovered a stash of photos I'd started collecting when I first began bodybuilding. They were images from various forums of people that had my goal physique. I'd tried to keep it aspirational, but achievable, so they're of people with a similar frame to mine, but much more developed muscle.

Then I forgot about them.

Going back over them years later, it's really interesting to compare them to where I'm at now. And what my goal is now - because it's changed.

I'm thinking about starting a topic where we can compare your current physique to your early goal photos. How many of you have early goal photos?

that's interesting that you tried to keep it realistic i wonder how many others done that? personally i kept it so very unrealistic (and still do) but never the less gives me the motivation i need. the only one i collected was the famous 'king ronnie' one which most probably already know, i believe from his final Mr. O win (2005)

I've only been interested for a few years but when I first started getting interested it was in the look of a lot of the bikini girls and like Jaime Baird or Leigh brandt or Alex zerega and that "tight and tiny" look and I mainly liked the model shots rather than on stage pics. I was also more concerned with how flat my stomach/ love handles were and didn't really care about the shape or muscle in my other body parts.

But I quickly realised that I already had more muscle than those girls and that a lot of it is about body type as well as the fact that I liked weight training heavy and lower reps way more than i liked cardio or circuit training and moved away from following bikini competitors as that was all they seemed to post about.

I then started understanding the pictures of girls i thought were more "muscular" like some of the figure girls or the frahn sisters etc. I then started focusing on muscle mass and on certain body parts like delts or glutes that i wanted to improve.

Now I'd love to have heaps of muscle almost like some of the physique competitors (but don't wanna be not natty). But most of all I don't really want to train for aesthetics but for strength and health/flexibility and really look up to people like camille le-blanc bazinet (or whatever it is ) the canadian crossfitter as she has heaps of strength and flexibility and can do oly style lifts (not so much the actual cross fit though - its more the ease of like she trains for improving her strenght/speed/time and its not just about how she looks - not saying that all bodybuilders just train for looks but with someone who is actually an "athlete" it definitely appears to be less of a focus) or even the fitness competitors like okshana grishina (however you spell it)

I guess your right in that you can aspire to look in competition like the person who has roughly similar body type etc, as a competitor in figure for me would be erin stern - not because she's number 1 but because she's a fellow jew and has roughly similar muscle insertions and roughly my height.

I also have like a guilty want to look like eva andressa who clearly is very gifted in the glute department as well as obviously having had some work done up top - i can dream though!

Too lazy to upload pics sorry.

now i aspire towards becoming a rodent capable of perpetual bicep curls

Well, of course - who wouldn't?!

Azide, if you were serious about the photo you posted being a goal, don't delete it. Plenty of people would agree that's an excellent goal - myself included.

Oh well, maybe I'm in the minority in choosing "achievable" goals. I can accept that! :P

The interesting thing about it for me is that it gives me a milestone indicator of my progress. The point I'm at now is not that far from some of my old goal pics, so it's quite a cool thought that when I first started, I would have looked at my current physique as my then-ideal physique. Of course, now I have new goals and the bar has been raised...

Anyway, here's a few of the goal pics I'd collected back then.

branch+warren+(10).jpg

goal = to look like a monster hob goblin

Is this photo shopped?

I'm sure Branch doesn't look this good...

I think it's from around the 2012 Arnold Classic

No idea if it's shopped... might just be a good shot of him. It's obviously not from the posing in that video as there's no number on his trunks in the pic.
