Tourist in Auckland - cheapest places for oats in the area?

I am moving to New Zealand for a year and I'm on a budget. I will live close to Queen Street and I was wondering about cheap food in the area... All I know is that Pak N Save is supposed to be cheap, but the best places to get food where I live are usually more low-key.

Where should I go if I want cheap oats for example? Where I live it's only $1.75 per kg if I get it at the right store, but can be as high as $7 per kg if I get it elsewhere.

Any deals/suggestions for a bodybuilder in Auckland city will be appreciated. My diet mostly consists of oats, rice, lentils, pasta, milk, eggs, chicken drumsticks, chicken breast, peanut butter, whey powder... any info on any of those will be good as well...

Thanks.

It comes down to what's on special. Not sure that there is a place that is always the cheapest.

CBD is about the worst place for bargain food.

Where have you been getting oats at $1.75?

Unless you want to do a lot of running around you might have to get accustomed to buying bulk lots of oats, rice, lentils, pasta, chicken drumsticks, chicken breast, peanut butter, and whey powder when they are on special. It can make for lumpy expenditure at times but you'll be well stocked at the right price.

Right now nutratech nutrawhey unflavoured 5lbs at $64 is the best protein/$1 you'll find. Use voucher 'apr13' for a little more off. Some milo and blended oats in there and you're rocking it.

I usually buy oats at $1.75 per kg from a small local store, not in NZ though.

Never heard of Nutrahwey and never tasted unflavoured whey, but $64 is really cheap for 5lbs. I usually buy Optimum, hope that it's not that different other than the brand and taste.

That sucks about the food prices in Auckland CBD, I already paid bond for 2 months minimum so I hope it's not gonna be a problem. Definitely willing to travel a little once in a while and buy in bulk.

Is there a specific place where you'd say it'd be best to buy in bulk? I saw that someone here recommended getting food from Davis, is it worth it going all the way over there to buy oats/rice/lentils in bulk or could I buy in bulk from a place nearby as well (such as Pak N Save, Countdown) at a similar price?

Thanks again, I really could use every bit of information.

Davis Food Ingredients has bulk oats, can;t remember the price but you can buy big bags anyway and it's cheap. They have a walk in store in Mt Wellington. They're the ones who do 20kg sacks of whey. They also do bulk dextrose, nuts, and other shit you might be interested in

Oats are pretty cheap anyway, Pak n Save should be a good bet. Compare the prices of the bulk bin oats to the bagged ones
