Who's cheating whom? Four Corners

An interesting news piece about drugs in sport in Australia.

http://www.abc.net.au/4corners/stories/ ... 740178.htm

I find it very interesting in regards to systematic doping being so prominent in professional Aus sport since the 80s (no naive).

A couple of interesting interviews from past athletes and past coaches.

Robert Wilks (PA/IPF) chimes in with his views on Capo powerlifting.

***note: this is his view on capo aus NOT capo NZ - capo NZ are a different entity - not trying to start a fight here***

Like I said above - I find it more interesting with regards to the systematic doping side in professional Aus sport.

Discuss!

Agree RE: personal vendetta.

CAPO Aus did come across as "in the wrong" in the piece - but as the former head of ASADA said - Mr Wilks had no proof or substantial evidence.

Very interesting looking from the 'outside'

Intriguing watch. Robert Wilks seems to have a strong personal vendetta against CAPO. I don't really like how they portrayed CAPO in such a negative manner, quite typical really. Funny how they cut SP's interview out lol.

True - I was standing to the side of SP when he was getting the interview done. They were trying to put words in SP's mouth LOL. Good they left him out of the story.

One interesting part of the story was the interview done with Senator Black and how after his 2nd drugs inquiry - he was let go/finished up as senator.

Is professional aussie sport so corrupt that even the politicians are involved. Makes me wonder 8)

interesting watch...

that league player makes me lol, full of shit imo

i have a few mates that all play in the same comp for different teams, they reckon the amount of people using PEDs is insane!!! almost to the point now where its just like another supplement, everyone takes em but just keeps it hush hush. those guys are not silly, they educate themselves on detection times etc and can dodge the bullet, only time they were likely to get busted would be the spontaneous tests, but even then i recall hearing in the doco that there are ways around it.

After going over there and spending a bit of time playing in one of the NRL clubs in the lower grades, sport over there is on a whole different level imo. the mentality and mindset of majority of the athletes playing at the top levels is unreal, they live and breath the stuff.

no surprises if there is some sort of corruption going on, aussies have high expectations to keep up to.

Interesting thoughts Rapz - a good insight. Great insight on the mentality and minset.

After watching the story, Aus professional sport seems to be light years ahead of NZ professional sport in regards to biomechistry and nutrition.

Maybe not a case of Clean v Un-clean, but a case of Progession v No progression?

At least we know the Warriors aren't taking PEDs :pfft:

Totally missing the point of the thread but WOW - how big have Pritchard and Howlett got!! Different Feds (can't compare Squats) but shows big bodyweight gains align with big squat gains! I remember both when they were 20kg+ lighter!

Wilks is Wilks....without dissing the guy he does have agendas (being IPF committee) so probably shouldn't comment on CAPO, it just looks like sour grapes regardless of the facts. I haven't had anything to do with him since 2006 but he still hasn't learnt to engage his brain before his mouth, the ASADA Official confirmed that.......

Interesting doco, lets not be naive enough to think it's any different in nz

True bro - since my weight has gone up, my squat and strength has gone right up too. Best thing I ever did was go to the supers - haha remember when I was 110kg lifting with you :pfft: (long time ago lol).

If you ever get to watch Joe Rogans interview with the former owner of Balco (2.5 hours long lol) - he'll explain how there are a lot of things (wada legal) that a lot of high profiled athletes don't do to maximise performance - ie. sleep, recovery techniques, proper nutrition, hydration, timing of food etc.

He mentioned that a lot of athletes using PEDs don't need to use so much - they basically need to get all the basics right before even thinking of using PEDs. Was an interesting interview.

Interesting doco, lets not be naive enough to think it's any different in nz

In NZ Professional Sport/Athletes (eg. IPL, A-league, NRL, ANBL) or NZ Amateur Sport?

I've competed in tested and untested Bodybuilding comps here in Australia and not all Bodybuilders are cheats.

I don't think anyone mentioned natural bodybuilding.

Any high level sport where money is involved corruption will follow.

No money in Natural Bodybuilding so if you are to cheat it doesn't really make sense other than your are a true twat. That said I'm sure it happens.

I take my Bodybuilding career very seriously. We in Perth love our Bodybuilding so just saying.
