Hi guys I recently started having an issue with wide grip chin ups

when I perform the chin ups,I feel pain in my right lat and it makes a click like Cartilage is moving over cartilage ,It is very uncomfortable ,never had this issue before

Neutral chin up and pulls up's are fine

wide grip Lat pull down's are fine.

anyone have this issue before?

When I went from doing Pulldowns as my main movement to doing Pull Ups ages ago I started to get real pain in my shoulders after a couple weeks. Went back to doing Pulldowns for ages till I gave Neutral Wide Grip Chins a go (if this option is available), worked wonders. Then have chopped and changed between Pulldowns and Neutral Wide Grip Chins for awhile, then decided to try doing some normal Wide Grip again, and now I can do it pain free, can even do Behind The Neck Pull Ups now with no pain.

Not sure what changed but from what I can gather it is a case of making sure when you do Chins you get your body in a comfortable position, if you have to swing out etc and put unneeded stress on the shoulders to get up then probably stick to Pulldowns or Assisted Chins till you can do them with better form.

Also make sure you are doing the full rom, emphasis no the stretch, arms extended, shoulders just below the ears etc otherwise it's like doing a half Squat or half Bench, ruins your joints.

Another thought was that just making sure my Shoulders and Lats were strong enough to cope with the full rom and weight.

Hoping some of that might help with your problem.

Thanks for the advice bro , I can chin and pull up just fine and I do them super slow ,no kipping at all,, i can bust out at 8- 10 reps, no prob, I just find it odd that it just popped out of nowhere , i actually stopped doing wide lat pull downs coz I just stuck to weighted chins and pull ups.

But you might be right I might be contracting too hard so am not getting a full rom.
