Unfortunately I don't think you will be able to hold on to all your muscle mass without resistance training your body has not need to carry excessive muscle. Once you start training again though the gains will come back faster than originally.

A good example of this would be NZhredder.

Wouldn't worry bout it tbh, muscle memory is a wonderful thing, just keep your diet at or slightly above maintenance and train around your injury. So long as you keep eating you will find you don't lose as much size as you think. Get on the leg press for 6 months and build a massive set of wheels :pfft:
