Gluten free porridge?

Is porridge not gluten free? By porridge I mean oats. I see on the side of the porridge it says it contains oats and gluten. Wondering if it would be ok to chance it? Maybe they say gluten due to potential line cross contamination. My understanding of oats is that they are gluten free?

Try "steel cut oats"

Are you saying that steel cut oats are gluten free?

My flat mate is coeliac and says steel cut oats don't give her problems, and she's pretty hardcore with what she will and won't eat.

It is most likely that she can tolerate the gluten that oats have ie avenin.

Oats are not gluten free. See here for further info: http://www.harraways.co.nz/healthy-livi ... luten.html
