Squats are great

what is the significance of the knee wrap/support things he is wearing, could it be because he squats a lot and squats are bad for your knees?

yup thats why, squatting does a lot of damage to the knees, really shouldn't do them

will definitely regret it at 80

squatting doesn't ruin your knees, squatting incorrectly ruins your knees.we are natural squatters but since we sit on chairs all day long we cant squat naturally anymore. Before we had chairs and stuff we could squat down and sit like that fr hours(unless you found a rock or a tree or something) .Hard Laborers and poor people in 3rd world countries still sit like that for hours without any discomfort, even friggin toddlers squat naturally. WE are supposed to be able to squat it's supposed to come naturally to us, NOT being able to squat is unnatural.

Brilliant post, very true (liked). Its the un natural squatting technique that has been taught in the last few years that is responsible for knee problems. The first thing I do with clients is to re train them to squat like a toddler does (or as someone from the 3rd world as mentioned above) without any weight until they get it right. Its amazing how knee problems soon vanish when one squats as we evolutionarily designed to.

My knees are shitty. Surgery on one, with the other needed it. I had to stop squatting. Lost mass right away.

I did the leg press to try to get some strength back but that hurt my knees so bad.

I had given up hope but the trainer at the gym who dabbles in PL said to go back to squats.

I started with just the bar (heavy for you, I know :pfft: ) then got heavier until I am comfortable with 100kg ass to grass. Still not near where I was, but this is an incredible come back considering I have minimal cartilage and multiple tears.

And I want that 6kg back on my legs.
