Recommended Posts

hi

My Names Rj and im 16 turning 17 next month and im new to this forum. i have been gyming for about maybe nearly a year now. Im not that big yet and have noticed a bit of change.

anyway i just started doing basketball training and have been doing quite a bit of running. my friend says that doing cardio makes gains go away, so i was wondering is it alright to do cardio/Running after or during sessions? i dont lift heavy weights just like 20-25kgs? also before most sessions i ride the bike for 2minutes is this alright? any help would be great :)

Gidday RJ. Welcome to the site. :)

To put on muscle, you need to be eating enough calories to fuel the amount of activity you're doing at your new bigger size. So if you're doing extra activity (eg, basketball and running) you need to eat extra amounts to compensate for that. Start eating heaps more (particularly more carbs on the days when you do all this cardio), and you'll notice a change!

The numbers on the weights you lift don't matter. What matters is how heavy they feel to you. They should be heavy enough that you struggle to finish 12-15 reps.

Cardio? Have you tried heavy squats?

he's doing the cardio for his sport - basketball. squats have their place everywhere but would real heavy squats be the best for a basketballer? his coach will probably have him doing single leg squats and box jumps or something i imagine(?)

no its a school bball team. we only do drills which usually mean alot of running
