Shoulders....

Sup Guys!

Ill cut to the chase.

I ripped something in my shoulder when I was 7th form. I have been to the doc's and apparently surgery wont help. Something detached, or teared, and some sort of injections can help. (I think some kind of steriod)

ANyways. When I bench, I cannot go all the way down as instantly my shoulder starts to feel it. I have pretty long arms, and for the bar to touch my chest, my elbows would almost be touching!! (not really...but it freakin feels like it!)

Same with squats. I can't even hold the bar on my back because my hands dont go that far back! :P I would LOVE to squat. Tried it once, got a cramp in my rear delt from trying to force my arms back...almost dropped it

So, I was after advice on stretches, exercises, movements ect that would help? ANyone else have this issue??

Whereabouts are you? Is it an option to head to a gym with a Safety Squat Bar? This may put your shoulder into a better position for squatting in.

Does dumbbell pressing help as opposed to barbell benching?

In terms of exercises, maybe very gentle shoulder dislocations and some light band pullaparts? I'd probably get an opinion from a physio/sports masseuse too, maybe the area could be freed up with some massage and/or specific exercises to target the issue. A good physio will be able to advise best.

I have some decent shoulder issues, and have been getting some pretty intensive deep tissue massage once or twice a fortnight for a couple of months now which has really increased my mobilitiy in the area.

Thanks. Just read up on what dislocates are. When I read that was like..."ahhh..what?"

Might try that with a broom stick or something. I threw the vortext around with my son the other day then hit the gym lastnight.

Ive been getting stronger, so I thought what the hell, Ill try 120. I did one and though, hmmmm. not bad. Did another one and I JUST got it back up, my shoulder was exploding :P

the injection was probably just cortisol or something

i wonder what it is you ripped back then and whether it's healed back up or something... to be able to push 120 on bench seems pretty good for a guy with a tear in his shoulder. maybe get your doc to confirm your records find out what it was and have it checked over to see how it's getting along now. it could be that with a little bit of rehab could make all the difference between you getting stuffed up for life in 6 months time vs you pushing for 140, 160, etc.

as for bench press form with long arms? i thought exactly like you not long ago lol, here read this topic on Pec Activation, you wanna read the stuff from BeastBuilder and Riccardo it's really helpful! - viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16383&p=338400#p338400

Yeah I think I might hit up my doctor for a name, or diagnosis. I was young and didnt really care. Now, when I throw (I can throw quite far) my arm and shoulder honestly feel like they are falling off. I can get 3 good throws in then I have to stop :P

Thats for that link too. (cool pic lol) and with most of it I can agree, accept Im an ectomorph, AND bench properly (like the second pic). I have ever since I started. I do push ups the same, never wide as my shoulders would scream at me.

Ill take a pic and see if I can show you :P

Well that failed :P I took some photos, then left my phone at home!

Based on the photos, I would say my arms are almost at a 45 degree angle! haha. If parallel to the ground is 90 degrees. I arched my back, squezed my traps/shoulder blades as usual.

I was watching someone bench lastnight and though, "Man, it must be easier if your shorter!" he was at maybe 10 degrees past 90! and the bar touched his chest....

cheating bastidz
