General Practitioners should have the patient's health as their number one priority and should exhibit exemplary interpersonal skills rather than applying labels such as dick head or cheap prick.

I don't know what you do for a living but when you're dealing with all kinds of people day in day out, it's not hard at all to get at least a bit cynical. He might not know it for sure about OP but most likely he's had a few 'bodybuilder' guys in his time who have tried to take advantage therefore he's become defensive about anyone else who identifies themselves as a bodybuilder.

IMO nothing wrong with how he treated OP.. he got what he wanted in the end anyway, just a bit of interrogation which is fair enough since he might have come off as a juicer/future juicer. Small chance Doc could be audited (risk reputation/job) if he just keeps giving everyone the benefit of the doubt and handing out referrals so you can see why it's all necessary. If you want to avoid that either get lucky with an easy doc or get creative with what you tell them.

I work in a professional services industry myself, just as a doctor does.

The doctor-patient relationship should be nurtured over time and built upon, not broken down from the get-go by preconceived notions about what the patient identifies himself as. Communication is key, communication means to "become one"... that doesn't happen when labels and prejudice are applied.

He didn't get what he wanted, he wanted hormone panels - which he got denied. I don't agree with finding an easy doctor, that's abuse of the system. Juicers should go to Medlab or whatever and pay the price of the test out of their own pocket, society shouldn't be subsidising their hormone monitoring.

fellowshipoftheron,

Have you had results emailed to you?

I wouldnt think they would as they were over the top with the id thing.

Yep I have, paid my money, got the tests.

No ID asked for before the test and they emailed the results.

When you are there they give you a receipt which has a code on it that opens the results when you receive them.

No hassles, no interegation and only a little pain haha

Same i get mine emailed, and I use a made up name and birthdate. There are no checks when you pay for it yourself. Except the nurse asks you again for the name and birthday before they draw blood. So dont forget what you wrote down :pfft:

Reason I pay for a private test, I dont want PED use on my record for insurance reasons.

well not emailed but snail mailed but, same thing - results without ID though i got my tests endorsed by doc (for legit and natty reasons as you could tell by my pics lol).

i think they are just really tough on the ID thing for collections in person because someone could all too easily come in pretending to be you and before they know it, they've handed your personal information to an unauthorized, unidentified individual which is a pretty major infringement of the privacy act.

yeah fotr,i wonder if its tougher in some places more than others,iv had at least 3 or 4 other testosterone blood tests (personal) private, and never had the option to get results via email.

They have always asked for photo ID,address, date of birth.

Next time i will ask for results to be emailed to me.

jeez havnt been been on all weekend...... that escalated quickly :D

thanks for all of your views!

after having a think to myself and reflect on the situation a bit, thinking more from the doctors perspective i suppose my rant was not really warranted to go as far as saying the doctor lacks in any areas.

At the time i was just pissed as i felt it was a waste of time. The only reason i went to the docs in the first place was upon his recommendation that i see him before self referring for blood tests. I felt it was not only a waste of my time, but left me thinking less of him as a doctor (not that he cares)

For the record i did not insinuate or suggest use of PEDs, nor did i have a problem with his student doctor being in the room, actually if anything she was more help than the actual doctor himself

Basically all i wanted was either.....

a) get given the requested tests,

b) get told to gtfo and pay for my own tests

c) any of the above with some useful information and advice.

all without beating around the bush, i understand docs have processes and policies and i would hate to be wasting anyones tax $$$, hence why i suggested he should have just told me to get my own tests done elsewhere.

as for his opinions and views on BBing i still disregards this as rubbish, yes i suppose it can be unhealthy at times but surely it is better than pissing up every weekend, smoking and all the rest.

on a positive note, off to get my bloods this week and self refer for the hormone stuff \:D/

Good stuff mate.

You got to remember the majority is always right  bodybuilding isn't very mainstream and for that reason not that expected by particular people.

I can understand why people don't understand why people starve themselves and then hop on a stage in nothing but budge smugglers and fake tan. That side can be unhealthy as some people can take it to extremes. Overall the sport is health and promotes a healthy lifestyle.

It never ceases to amaze me when I hear stupid comments about how unhealthy bodybuilding is.. A completely and utterly ridiculous comment..

Sure there are some aspects that MAY or MAY NOT not be the best.

Some of the drug taking as an example or extreme low body fat possibly.

But over all the benefits are huge..

One only has to look at people as they age that on pushing weights compared to people that don't do anything..

People with a sedentary lifestyle age way faster..

As I age, (now 51) I keep bumping in to mates that have never changed their ways.. Being piss heads or tokers most of their lives and man what a shock to bump in to some of them ..

Roughly the same age but looking old grey and withered.

Lately I have had a nurse at my doctors rooms and a Masseuse / Natural therapist, both tell me how bad bodybuilding / weight training is..

Ignorance is bliss I guess.

How I would love to have written list on hand, similar to the one below to help open their eyes.

MY LIST OF BENEFITS

1.Weight training helps raise your basal metabolism rate (also known as resting metabolism; amount of energy your body uses at rest to maintain vital functions like breathing and blood circulation), so you’ll burn more calories even on days you’re giving your body a break from working out.

2.Helps you lose unwanted body fat. Muscle tissue burns more calories so building muscle mass is an important key for losing or maintaining a healthy weight. The formula to succeed: A good combination of resistance training, aerobic exercise, rest and clean eating.

3.Weight training counteracts muscle loss associated with aging which can cause a decline in your metabolism. Did you know you can lose approximately 0.5 pound of muscle yearly after your 30s if you don’t strength train regularly? Remember…“We do not stop exercising because we grow old; we grow old because we stop exercising.”

4.Weight training gives you more energy.

5.Remember that your muscles are important to produce movement. Training with strength and also with flexibility will help you improve full range of motion in your body.

6.Weight training will help keeps your bones stronger, reducing your risk of having to deal with osteoporosis.

7.Makes you stronger in your everyday activities, like carrying groceries, doing house chores, playing with your kids, etc.

8.It’ll improve your endurance, so you can last longer and your daily activities won’t wear you out fast.

9.Reduces your risk of getting injured by making your connective tissues stronger.

10.Reduces arthritis pain. When you strengthen your muscles, you are cushioning and protecting your joints better.

11.Improves your performance when you’re playing your favorite sport with friends or with your kids. Remember that spending quality time with your kids by keeping your family active is PRICELESS.

12.Toned and sexy muscles for you ladies – NOT huge muscles like a man. Remember: Women have about 15 to 20 times less testosterone than men. I’ll add that according to the author of The New Rules of Lifting for Women (Lou Schuler), “Unless you’re an extreme genetic outlier, you [as a woman] can’t get too bulky. Women’s bodies simply don’t have the same genetic makeup as men’s, so our muscles do not grow the same way”.

13.When you lift weights, you learn persistence, self-control, discipline and you’ll feel stronger, which will help you build self-confidence.

14.Helps to manage symptoms of depression, alleviate stress. After exercising, your “feel good hormones” (Endorphin levels) will increase making you feel REBORN. Keep up with your training, and your self-confidence and energy levels will improve.

15.Weight training reduces your chances of having low-back injuries. Just make sure a correct form comes first before adding heavier weights, that you are not neglecting muscle groups in your body and that you are also stretching regularly.

16.When you lift weights, you are decreasing your resting blood pressure. It is also important to watch your sodium intake too.

17.It reduces insulin resistance and decreases your risk of having diabetes – paired up with a balanced nutrition.

18.Weight training decreases your risk of developing types of cancer like colon cancer by reducing gastrointestinal transit time.

19.Weight training increases your good cholesterol (HDL) but again, paired with aerobic exercise and clean eating.

20.Improves your body’s mechanisms – Your Balance, Coordination and Posture.

21.It can reduce your risk of falling by 40%, especially when you grow older.

22.Strength training improves the functioning of the immune system. Why? Because muscles are the primary site where an amino acid called glutamine is formed, which is a fuel source that makes many cells of the immune system work properly. Your muscles store protein – the extra protein will help to produce antibodies and white blood cells to fight off infections and to attack cancerous cells. If you don’t strength train, you’ll lose your ability to create the cells you’ll need to fight illness.

23.It can lower your chances of heart disease and heart attack.

24.Strength training will also help post-menopausal women increase their bone density; this way there’ll be fewer risks of bone injuries.

25.You’ll sleep better! Exercise will help you improve your sleep patterns. And both exercise plus sleeping better will make wonders with your Immunity.

calm down geeky, this is one of those sites where you don't have to justify bodybuilding to anyone.. its in the blood for most of us 8)

i think what was being said was that when taken to extremes it can be dangerous but that's really a pointless saying. anything taken to its extremes can be dangerous.

when you hear ordinary people talking about how they think it's unhealthy, keep in mind when they say 'bodybuilding' they are actually thinking about Pro Bodybuilders - the REAL big dudes (like legit 100kg+ @ 3% bodyfat dudes like Ronnie Coleman, Jay Cutler, Phil Heath etc.) who are actually unhealthy by most measures not the gym junkie down the road

Most on here would agree with me I think..

I just don't get it when your getting so called health proffessionals or anyone for that matter than thinks lifting weights and living a healthy life style is bad.

I think that I have a great Doctor, I get sent for all sorts of tests twice a year, I can even ask for specific tests to be done without a blink.:lol:

guess he knows just how much of a dirty bugger you are then ay :pfft:

LOL!!!

Dirty Buggar??? I wish, no SHE just knows how to look after her patients. She is even willing to give us needles for my husband who takes test for hormonal imbalance. Before anyone makes another comment, no I don't take it or whats not used as there is nothing left and its not worth my registration if I am caught. Not worth losing the $60 000 that I spent getting it.
