this post is more of a rant than anything

[RANT]

i read a couple threads on here that were posted a while back about going into your docs and getting bloods done etc...

What a f**cking mission that was!

firstly he asked if his med student could sit in, which i had no problem with. He then went on to ask me why im here today. So i explained i currently doing some bodybuilding stuff and with all the supplements, diets, training etc that im putting my body through i would like to get some bloods done and a general health check.

As soon as i mentioned bodybuilding he started to look at me up and down. He asked "what sort of bloods do you mean?" so i suggested things like my hormone panel, lipid panel,CBC, creatinine etc etc. he went on to say theres no medical reason you need any of these done, and every time i tick one of these boxes its costing taxpayers $$$$. To add to that he said he doesnt like paying tax as it is (phaggot).

After 15mins of debating and debating he agreed to do the Lipids, CBC and everything else, everything except for the hormones. He said your 24 years old your hormones will be fine. I went on to say i have been taking test boosters (which i haven't) so i wanted to monitor test levels. His reply "your test levels will be normal, your a young man everything will be in order" his next statement i lost all credibility in him, i went on to ask what was the "normal levels" of test as he suggested? his reply "ummmm (shrugged shoulders) i dont actually know, (turned to his med student) do you know??"

He then proceeded to tell me bodybuilding is unhealthy and he doesn't know why people do it ( i didnt stick around for long after this, was just about to attack him  )

Anyway i ended up leaving pissed off, i did get referrals for all bloods except hormones in which i really wanted, and ended paying doc fees for nothing more than a blood pressure test (done by his med student).

It surprised me in regards to his lack of knowledge but more or less his ignorance as soon as i mentioned bodybuilding.

In the future im just going to self refer into one of the labs here in CHCH and get it done.

I'm feeling exhausted at the end of the day.

I wake up feeling ok, day starts out good, but then I feel especially drained after the gym and tired. I eat well, drink heaps of water....oh and I cry alot.

My missus says I'm never interested in having sex, no problems when we do it, but just getting in the mood isn't there for me....can you check me out pls?

try that next time :pfft:

I've had 2 doctors like the one you describe, and I don't seek out docs that "like it", but I prefer to use ones that tolerate or accept that it's the life I choose to live.

Judgmental doctors... yay

The average person thinks because some one has educated them selves enough to become a doctor they should also be intelligent..

Unfortunately that is quite often not the case.

There are some very thick doctors out there.

I have seen many many examples of this. I still recall a doctor I went to and told him I had problems with my shoulder.. Later on found out it was caused by impingment.

The doc said to me, "I know what that will be" and proceeded to give me a shot of cortisone in the wrist..

Not sure who was more stupid. The doctor or me for letting him do it..

As mentioned above just rock into a bloods lab near by a tick what you want to be tested for.

Much cheaper and no need to explain yourself.

My doctor told me they charge $40 per blood test..

With the number of blood tests often needed, that sounds like a very very expensive way of going about getting your bloods done... Or am I missing something here??

Hate to burst your bubble buddy but your doctor is 100% right. The government subsidises health care for people who are actually sick, not some dick head with a chip on his shoulder. If you want the tests so bad go pay for it yourself and stop being a cheap prick.

By the way, body building IS unhealthy when you are talking about gear use, so don't fool yourself otherwise. Sure you can do your best to mitigate some of the bad health effects of these drugs, but the fact remains that they do have some side effects that you need to consider. As for the student doctor, if they weren't allowed to sit in on consultations then how else do you think they would get trained?

Lastly, do you know how many reference ranges there are to know for a blood test? Why would a doctor even need to know off by heart the reference range for every single little parameter when they can just look it up? FYI this is just some of the reference ranges for a blood test, you think you can memorize it all?

Upon reading Riccardo's post initially I agreed with his views, but the more I thought about the situation the more I started to disagree. Here are my views.

As far as I've read, the OP hasn't admitted that he is using gear on NZBB, so it shouldn't be assumed or even insinuated that he is enhanced - it's against site policy. The problem with the doctor's attitude, and Riccardo's, is that they are making assumptions and brushing off the patient rather than providing a service that could be beneficial to his health.

This doctor should have taken a much more diplomatic approach to his consult. There's two ways he could have gone about it:

- He could have let the test be taken and then on the follow up consult he should have a serious conversation with the patient if the reference ranges indicate drug use.

- Or more diplomatically, he could have broached the subject of steroid use with the patient and asked directly whether he was/is on steroids. If the patient admits to being a user, then he should discuss the situation.

Only when it is established that the patient is on steroids should it be made clear that the tests are partly funded by the tax payer and that because of this he cannot let the patient use the system. At this point he should refer the patient on to a private lab for testing, or better yet talk him out of his use of steroids!

General Practitioners should have the patient's health as their number one priority and should exhibit exemplary interpersonal skills rather than applying labels such as dick head or cheap prick.

You dont have to use a real name on a blood test, Im thinking of using sonny bill williams on my mid cycle bloods. See if there any accidental "media leaks" from the lab. :pfft:

You need photo I.D to get ya results.

I don't know what you do for a living but when you're dealing with all kinds of people day in day out, it's not hard at all to get at least a bit cynical. He might not know it for sure about OP but most likely he's had a few 'bodybuilder' guys in his time who have tried to take advantage therefore he's become defensive about anyone else who identifies themselves as a bodybuilder.

IMO nothing wrong with how he treated OP.. he got what he wanted in the end anyway, just a bit of interrogation which is fair enough since he might have come off as a juicer/future juicer. Small chance Doc could be audited (risk reputation/job) if he just keeps giving everyone the benefit of the doubt and handing out referrals so you can see why it's all necessary. If you want to avoid that either get lucky with an easy doc or get creative with what you tell them.

don't think you need it if they email it to you
