does anyone know where to get those straps or wrist wraps that have i think a metal or carbon fibre support in them?

neither nzmuscle or endorphin has a listing for them

Do you mean the hooks? I was looking for these 18 months ago. The only hook style I could find in NZ was one with two metal claws - think Wolverine from the X-men and you're not far off. They looked bloody lethal!

Bodybuilding.com had some tamer versions that were what I wanted, but after a lengthy period where customs held them, and bb.com refused to resend another pair or give a refund (you can read about the saga here) I ordered some from http://www.prowriststraps.com.

The hooks are ok, but I wouldn't say they're great. I think those straps with a rubber flap that folds over the bar are likely to be better, although I haven't tried them.

They are based in Auckland & seem to have a good range of gear. I've just ordered some pro wrist straps off them.
