Dairy Free Protein Shake

Hi GuyZ and Girlz,

I'm going off dairy for a while and I am looking for a good alternative and cheap replacement for a PWO shake. I have a recovery bar that I am going to have but I want a shake as I have trouble tolerating solid food straight after my workouts. Any help would be great.

The best buy that I've found on non dairy protein powder if you want something besides endless scrambled eggs or liquid egg whites (spew) is Red 8 rice protein powder. It's about 77% protein, tastes okay but the texture is as chalky as creatine. Between $40 and $48 or so per kilo.

You could also do soy powder I guess - price seems to be similar.

If anyone knows of any other nicely priced (but good) products, I'd love to hear about them...

Gold Standard make a soy protein shake mix, and the chocolate is pretty good. It's vegetarian - I think it's actually vegan, but can't confirm that as I haven't bought it in a while.

Can't remember the stats on it (protein count etc.) but it's pretty easy to get hold of, can be used in the same whey as whey (LOL), and is actually cheaper than similar whey products.

For protein alternatives, though, I reckon you'd be better off with beans (e.g. baked beans or whatever) if you don't want eggs, unless you're really keen on the whole *shake* thing. They'll fill you up better, and have much better nutrition.

If you're vegetarian, check beans labels - some have ham and other animal products added.

Cheers.

Kai Greene's protein powder is from beef yo

MuscleMed's Carnivor

Nice tasting stuff tastes and looks like whey protein incredible stuff

Problem solved, you're welcome :pfft:

I heard it is just gelatin as the amino acid profile is very similar.

Not sure about the truth behind the statement, but supplement companies are always dying to make a buck...

COuntdown in Browns Bay had liquid egg whites in the milk area a month or so ago. $7 for the equivalent of 29 eggs.

Maybe add that?

And I only came here cause I thought it said DAILY Free Protein Shake.

I came for freebies. I leave disappointed.

I worked it out and it was too expensive. I use 2 servings a total of 14 egg whites according to the packet which I actually read this morning. Wow 14 egg whites, I use the natural one and blend in fruit and coconut milk, and rice milk. Taste like a chocolate milkshake only fruity. :pfft:

Why the anti-dairy? Lactose? Tried exclusively using WPI?

The main thing is I am using the Paleo plan, I also have found that too much along with Wheat sets off my hyperactivity symptoms. Since coming off my meds it has been a interesting journey on what I can and can't eat. So I am on very limited Diary and no gluten.
