Gym accidents you've seen

So this morning I saw a dude drop a 28kg dumbbell on his face while doing serratus pull overs on a swiss ball  . Quite a bit of blood and I reckon he would have broken some bones in his face. One of the PTs took him to A&E.

Got me wondering what gym accidents you have personally seen? Anything gnarly? There's heaps on youtube but have you seen many/any in person?

A buddy of mine was doing lat pull-downs behind the neck with a full stack and the cable snapped. Hit himself on the head with the bar. Got knocked the f*ck out.

A training partner I had about a year ago was doing seated cable rows with a full stack and some plates added, when the cable snapped. Was funny.

Haha man when I've been doing cable row at times I look at that skinny wee cable and think "can I trust that fkn thing?!"

I dropped a 10kg dumbell on my foot once, was not nice.

One thing I am worried about at gym lately is the caribiners on the cables. I regulary change the ones around (referring to pull down bar on head and getting knocked the f*ck out). The little I know about the days when I rock-climbed, is that a caribiner is pretty useless when the pin is not locked in place. Dunno if I am explaining right, but have you noticed some caribiners at the gym that attaches the bars to the cables are "Stretched" and cannot "pin-in" anymore? I'm waiting for one of those to go "snap" and also seeing someone get knocked the fark out.

I should actually bring it up with the peeps at the gym. As said, I swop them around and was actually thinking the other day of taking my own caribiner.

you guys may not believe this one but it was a once in a lifetime moment..it was sad but still funny.

a large group of mentally challenged adults would come to my old gym years ago with their caregivers to do a quick fitness session on the gear. i was minding my own business but couldnt help watch the drama unfold.

One was singing/shouting awesomeness whilst rowing and then i saw two 26-30 year old ladies in full pink track suits rocking mean bowl cuts walking on the treadmill. i could hear the speed button being tapped by one of them and this followed with the sound of her feet starting to hit the belt with some decent speed...yet she kept tapping that damn button.

THEN BOOM she face plants and gets spat out and hits the wall which was a small space away but had two steel support cross beams on it so she got smoked on that...then heres where it gets worse she goes to push herself up to her feet but puts hers hands on the spinning belt and that sends her face slamming onto the treadmill. this happened 3 or so times then she got up.....to top the sad story off the other mentally challenged chick was point and laughing the whole time.

ill never witness anything like that again

ive seen my fair share. and had my fair share of training accidents

- benching 155kgs in a 48 fury, which turned into a skull crusher..landed square on my bottom jaw creating a nice hole below my lower lip

-WBoP Novice cambridge- Super heavy weight benching 180kg suicide grip. as he gets the press command he starts to press the bar up gets about half way and the bar rolls out of his hands, straight onto his chest - pretty much folded the guy in half almost. went to check up on him before deadlifts lifted up his shirt to see and basically entire chest/rib region was bruised to fark

Worst one was at my regular gym - guy had a major heart attack lifting weights. Freaked a lot of people out. Heard he had a slow recovery; never saw him again.

Funniest one was at a hotel gym in China - this Indian dude, dressed in his underwear and business socks (no shoes or outer wear to be seen), got on to a cross-trainer cardio machine and turned up the speed full tit. He lasted almost a full minute, which was damn impressive, before he flew off the back into the mirrors behind him. He was non-plussed; picked himself up and moved on to the next playground toy...where he proceeded to do the whole thing over again...meanwhile the Chinese gym instructor looked on, laughing at him before returning to her smartphone, completely ignoring him...only in China!

Since I work in a gym I have seen a fair bit of accidents ranging from people fainting and seeing people hyper extend there when on the rower which I saw that happen at the I got the ice pack right away. The worst accident that I have seen was a over weight male having a heart attack on treadmill in Feb of 07 cant recall the date off hand but to this very day I know the time of day that it happen which was 3:45 pm and we had to do CPR the guy also we had get ST Johns including the Fire deparment to carry him down the stairs.I felt very bad about the hole thing. The next day at work one of my co workers told me that the guy was in ICU and very sick as well.I have seen a guy lose is skin while doing deadlifts.I had to do first aid on the guy by wrapping lots of bandage to stop the blood the guy was ok but when he came to me and asked for a plaster I thought ouch

Thursday we seen a dude on a treadmill prol set at max speed...running so fast he got too close to the top of it and his foot kicked and broke the plastic off the top end. Sounded like a car crash. Dude was ok as he managed to jump off as the plastic cover flew past his legs but everyone stopped what they were doing and stared at him with a "you dumb motherfucker" mostly annoyed that he distracted us from our sets.

I have seen a few over the years, one that stands out is a lady running on the treadmill, then suddenly just drops and her head is smacking repeatedly against it... Turns out her pacemaker was faulty, she yelled at me for calling an ambo.. Wellllll, f*ck you too woman! Next time I'll just leave you there. (she was passed out cold)

I've done dumb stuff like jam my fingers between dumbells while angrily tidying them and slamming them back in their places.. That hurt

Yesterday I tried to vault/straddle jump a box jump as a joke, now I have a massive bruise on my inner thigh :pfft: dumbass.

Have heard stories about a guy getting trapped under a leg pressthe day before his wedding, and breaking both legs - that would suck!

When I first started training I had a PT show me the ropes. We started on leg press he smacked on 3 plates a side which I struggled with on my maiden set. He was very chipper and energetic as he tried quickly attempted to remove 2 plates at the same time. He grabbed the plates at chest height and proceeded to pull along the shaft towards his torso. His face quickly displayed his sense of panic as his grip immediately failed once both plates were beyond the cusp of the support of the sled. His hands started at 9 and 3 which quickly became double 12s. I watch vacantly as the plate descended towards his Nike frees. His attempt to dodge the two Steele Ivankos was unsuccessful. The plates hit with the precision and violence of prize winning angus striking a paraplegic matador.

The only thing worse than the sight was the sound. Have you ever eaten 7 Pringles at the same time? That’s about what it sounded like. The crunching of many bones was closely followed by a deathly shrill. People turned to see the source of the deathly cry of pain. I still remained reaction in my stunned state as my hired help reduced his screams to a sobbing moan with his jaw clench tight and hands shaking wildly. The focus of the room soon became his left foot as a horrid sense of emergency lay dormant. The blue Nike soon became unlike its counterpart as a deep red emerged from the toe and proceeded grow rapidly towards the heel. A small crowd had gathered and soon I was ushered away by a member of the staff.

Luckily they gave me another 10visits on my concession card for my horrific experience and also made another appointment for the following week. The new personnel trainer had advised that the same poor fellow whom had put on the scene the previous week had only just came out from a corrective surgery on the foot in question a few days prior. He was advised by ACC not return to work with the fresh wounds.

Poor c#nt

This is not really a gym accident, quite a few years ago when I was about twenty I was ath the gym going through a fitness programe the instructor said "take it easy as this is your first time doing this routine'. Well being the young staunch fulla I was and trying to get fit for rugby, I never listened instead I was outside hands on knees spewing my ring out for 5 minutes. training was over after this and the instructor laughing his tit's off
