Anyone know about Army/NZDF training?

In reference to getting up to speed for the 2.4km, couch to 5km is not a bad program, but specifically to the 2.4km run, a good way to train is breaking it down into 1.2km intervals. So if you had to run 2.4km in 10 mins, do your 1.2km in 5mins or less. Repeat this 3 times in one session with appropriate rest. So ideally your cardio brick would work out to be 1.2km run, 4-5 min rest, 1.2km run, 4-5 min rest, 1.2km run. Do this 3-4 times a week until your testing day, trying to shorten up your 1.2km each time and you will breeze through it. Don't forget to train your push ups too and make sure you can get your required numbers when you're already fatigued from the run, that can kill some guys who aren't so flash at one or the other.

Thanks man, perfect solution. I will start that. Sounds very similar to what I am doing unintentionally with the swim

I'm already doingh pushups straight after my run as I had a feeling I would struggle after the run (and I was right)

you gotta run to get better/more efficient at running but for general fitness make sure you cross train also!  biking is amazing, really saves your joints especially if you are quite unfit and having issues with ankles/shin splints or whatever. even better if you have a real bike  hit the roads, go out of your comfort zone a bit. doing both running and biking you'll be able to get a bit more cardio in to your week. for the police i think you need to do a swimming test too so don't forget about that.

with the running as mentioned above, break it up in to intervals. have some days where you just do 100m sprints, 400m timed runs, 5km slower pace etc. dont just only do 2.4km. most people who are not complete couch potatoes should be able to train up to decent force entry fitness standards within 12 weeks.

Thanks, I'm putting swimming in as the cross training and as soon as I can comfortably make the run standard I will be doing more of a functional fitness type thing so I am all round fit for entry.

12 weeks wouldn't be a problem, I am down to 3 weeks before my first practice. I think I will just have to suck it up and realise that this will ONLY be a practice and I will be pushing shit uphill to pass this time around. It's all learning though and by the time I book in for the next practice I will be smashing the time.

Glad I could help, this is what helped me with my testing whilst I was in the military.. quick, simple and effective. Also, the push ups, they duck after the run, don't they? Make sure to train them when you aren't fatigued as well but you do want to ensure you can get at Least the minimum when you're fatigued..

Best of luck.

LOL that's an actual saying non gunners say about gunners in the NZ Army.

Are you good at math? Not that most gunners are, but if you were you could excel in the trade.

Probably a couple months beforehand, but I have known guys to get notice as little as a week out.. So just get yourself prepared close to the time and if you don't hear anything contact your recruitment office, it's there job to keep you in the loop and there's always a chance of things getting lost in the mail.

It's always best to stay on top of your recruiter.. they tend to be lazy pieces of shit, it's how they wind up in recruitment lol... not always but often.

Will let my Recruiter mates know

Will be a year next week since my application. Was declined after 7 months  because didnt get security clearance so I applied for for a reconsideration 4 months ago. Was told last week it's now sitting with security "team leader" and should hopefully have an anwser soon. Come on how many hoops you guys going to make me jump thru

Well, it sounds like it's just a matter of waiting and seeing if the team leader gives you security clearance, right? I'm not sure what your question is, sorry...

I mean, if you've got a driving-related criminal conviction (what does that mean - speeding? Or theft of a vehicle?) I don't know what would help increase your chances. Maybe a character reference from someone in authority?
