Hi guys and girls,

I'm looking into getting some ZMA as I know that it may help me to sleep better. However I cant afford to buy the product as a all in one supplement, but next time I go to the doctors I can get the three different ingredients as three separate tablets (Zinc, magnesium, and vit B complex) What do you guyz think????

Hmmm - while there's a lot of anecdotal evidence for ZMA delivering a better night's sleep, there's also a lot of hoodoo around the formula, it says here. This page may also be informative - at least, it's not supplied by a manufacturer :)

Ninja's right, it's my understanding that NZ recommended daily allowance for Zinc is lower than elsewhere. This means that either the doses on the NZ packaging will be lower than elsewhere OR you'd have to take more to see the results reported overseas.

Putting aside the spurious claims for other benefits of ZMA, the question in my mind is "what gives the benefits - the Zinc, the B6, or the magnesium, or a combination of any two or all three?" I'm no expert, but it does strike me as odd that only a patented formula can really deliver that benefit where the same dosage/ proportions, taken as separate items, can't - and if only one of the three is responsible for the sleep benefits, why take other stuff that's superfluous.

But if you can afford to drop $20 on the least of the packs that Nate identified, then give it a whirl and see if it does help.

Just buy Zinc and Magnesium from the supermarket a lot cheaper.

Zinc and Magnesium have a lot of positive effects on the body. Skin, hair, muscle, nervous system etc. These have been proven.

But it's ability to increase, promote, or improve testosterone production hasn't as far as I know.

I think its definitely worth supplementing with.

Thanks guys, the only reason I want to try it for sleep cause I would normally take diazepam as my mind won't stop working overtime and I really need to sleep. I have tried other herbal and prescription meds with little or no success, this is mainly due to my ADHD (for which I am medicated). the cheapest is still $26 with postage and I know that I can possibly get all three for around the $15 and until Feb, free cause I'm a high user.

Thanks for all your input.. Ill see what it is going to cost once I have to pay for the full amount and it may be cheaper to the $26 one. Thanks again everyone.

Just been to the doctor this morning and managed to get a script for the Zinc, and B6, however had to pay full price for the magnesium. So in total it only cost me $15. I have enough to last me three months so will be interesting to see how I go. I won't add the cost of the GP cause I had to go and sort out my other meds anyway.

what do you take for your ADHD? I used to take Aderoll and sleep definatley suffered as a result. But then again I'm not ADHD

methylphenidate now as an extended capsule that is meant to last 12 hours, started this today so hopefully no more high and lows. But today I had a few adverse reactions, but now working through this.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thankfully I went to the Doc and got my script for Zinc, Magnesium and B6 as I am using a much higher dose then the standard supplements. I'm currently taking 600mg Magnesium, 50mg Zinc, and 50mg B6 and man I have ever had a better nights sleep in a very long time. I'm looking forward to starting night shifts in a couple of weeks to see how I go with them. I have noticed that I am sleeping deeper and longer over night, and I feel more relaxed when I get up in the morning. Why oh why did I not try this earlier. I have a three month trial to see how I go and if it carry's on the way it is now then I can continue long term. Love it. \:D/
