Hi Ali - I use block chalk that climbers use, from MacPac, Bivouac or other good outdoors stores...don't think Kathmandu has it.

I keep it in a bag, just reach in and grab some when I need it.

Cheers

yea Bivouc 300-450gram blocks are bawse and only $4.50

have been wondering where to get some for a while. Ended up getting some liquidgrip from Eatme which seems pretty sweet, anyone tried this but still recommend real chalk? Never used real chalk before so cant compare..sorry for slight thread hijack!

thought it was crap imo, some use it our gym but always looked like they busted nuttz over the bar lol

chalk is king esp in block form, i find it better because you get more chalk into the recesses of your palms, better coverage too as opposed to just dipping you hands in powered chalk

I'm thinking that chalk's the only approved substance for powerlifting, so using liquidgrip wouldn't help under competition conditions, better to 'train like you fight/ fight like you train'.

As for the diff between loose powder and block, I think the block works about as well as the old trick of making a ball out of cloth and keeping the powder in that...

I'd be more concerned about what the 'powder' is... I know the climbing chalk is really good at drying out the hands, but are the loose powders the same ?

I used to be a crazy rock-climber in my earlier days.

We used "Magnesium Carbonate". I think that is what all the brand names are made of any ways.

It works wonders sticking the powder into a stocking and tying it off at both ends. To get chalk on just rub stocking between hands. Less Messy.

Hope that helps.

This topic came up earlier as well that might have some info in it:
