shoe for squatting

Recommended Posts

so noticed today that my running shoes aren't ideal for squatting, bit soft under the heel leaves room for movement and dont like the idea of rolling my ankle while under the bar or something even if its unlikely.

what is a good alternative thats not too expensive, see some guys use chucks, what are the best, high cut?

will go and grab some tomorrow unless there is a better option thats not gonna be super expensive

Hi-top chucks:

a) 'cos they have an even-height sole (the same under ball of foot and heel) which some people prefer for squatting to a shoe with a raised heel;

b) the sole's less compressible than a runner or cross-trainer, more stable; and

c) the hi-tops also help (a little) with ankle stability.

You'll get a and b from barefoot, but not c.

Hard flat soled shoes are the way to go brah, especially if you do a Low Bar style.

If you are a High Bar Squatter (Olympic Style) then Weight Lifting shoes would be the best bet as they have a raised heel but still a hard sole and ankle support.

Find what suits your squatting style, and if you are smart and get hard flat soled shoes with a thin sole then you can use them for Deadlifts too, just saying :pfft:
