Calve day

Got a bit (it is an under-statement) annoyed at the gym yesterday.

I was happily chugging along doing my shit, when it came to standing Calve raise time. I noted doing my previous sets that a lady was busy at the Calve machine while I was still busy with my incline bicep curls and bench dips. One would think that by the time I finished my 5x5 sets she would be finished or nearly finished at least.

So I move over towards the standing calve machine, sit my ass down for a rest after the heavy bicep and tricep pumping and proceed to wait for her.

I sat there for 20 minutes, 20 farking minutes! I think she did 10 sets in those 20 minutes.

Now seriously, what reason would you have to do 10-20 sets of an exercise? and if there is a reason for it (this woman is doing bodybuilding training, not one of the cardio group), is it reasonable in a gym full of people to sit on a piece of equipment for 30 minutes? My whole gym session is 1:00-1:20.

Farked me right off I tell you.

Needless to say, after 20 minutes I left, my calves to grow another week.

It does sound annoying that someone would hog the machine for such a long time but there are some really simple workarounds to this :

* Just go over to the person and ask if you could *please* work in between their sets. It's highly unlikely they are using it non-stop for that entire period and it's just a simple machine so there isn't even much hassle with having to reload/unload stacks of weights, just a couple pins to pull - most people will say yes.

* If you don't want to talk to them or they refuse to let you in between then look for alternate ways of finishing your workout. This means you sometimes you have to try something new but at least you will be able to get some muscle stimulus (100x better than wasting time sitting around building up frustration) ;

- Standing calf raises in the smith machine

- Standing calf raises in the squat rack

- Calf raises with leg press

- Hold some DBs in your hands and stack a couple plates then stand on those, work one leg at a time if you don't want to give your traps/forearms too much of a beating from holding on to heavy DBs

- Be creative, there's probably a bunch of other equipment you can use at your gym too

Yup, I hear you, I could've probably done something else. It was not possible to do in between as I would have to stack nearly 200 kg of extra plates on everytime though.

I just find it easy to do the same exercises as I can keep tabs on my logs and personal bests etc etc on one machine.

But yes, agreed, if everything else fails, there are other ways to get past the issue. Just a pain in the ass.

haha, sweet. Had my bitch.

Could do calves yesterday though, haha. Only problem this time, the big blokes were doing leg presses (Big ones) and I sorta run out of plates as they had most of them. :). Was a bit short on weight but managed to hit them well I think. Could do with another 40 kg or so but hey, at least they were worked.
