NZBB's Strongest Lifter 2012

After last years great inaugural effort the Strongest lifter competition is back!

There have been a few tweaks to last years rules, so pay attention 8)

NZBB's strongest lifter competition is a contest made up of the 3 main compound lifts. You must post up a video of yourself doing the following 3 lifts for 5 reps

SQUATS

BENCHPRESS

DEADLIFTS

The mandatory amount of reps required to qualify for each lift is 5, however you may do more than 5 reps and in the unlikely case of a tie in a division the person who performed the most reps at that weight wins.

Basically the assistance on all lifts is in powerlifting terms RAW PLUS

BENCH PRESS

- You may get a liftoff from a spotter but once the bar is set no one else may touch the bar except to help rack it at the end or your lift is invalid.

- The bar must travel to chest level, no pause is required but no bouncing off chest either. Bar must travel to lockout to count as a rep.

- The following assistance equipment is allowed - Chalk, Wrist straps, Elbow sleeves, Weight Belt

SQUAT

- Squat must start from locked out position.

- No other person may touch the body of the lifter or the lift is invalid

- Squats must be to parallel depth to qualify. This will no doubt be a contentious issue and will be discussed on a case by case basis if need be.

- The following assistance equipment is allowed - Chalk, Wrist wraps, Elbow sleeves, Weight Belt, Knee Sleeves, Knee Wraps

Deadlift

- The bar must start on the ground, but may be rolled away or towards the lifter before each lift is required.

- No excessive hitching, a small one on the last reps is allowable.

- The bar must touch the ground between each rep and a momentary pause must happen to discourage bouncing between reps.

- The following assistance equipment is allowed - Chalk, lifting straps, Wrist wraps, Elbow sleeves, Weight Belt, Knee Sleeves, Knee Wraps

When posting each video you must state your bodyweight at the time of the lift. This is an honesty thing, if you are called out you may have to verify your weight.

Now for the categories.

This year we will break it down into 2 categories with an overall winner

BODYBUILDERS

vs

POWERLIFTERS

Thats right, no novice or elite. Its simply the 2 biggest contributers to the forum going head to head. If you qualify as neither of these you probably shouldn't be doing this comp anyway, you'll get smoked lol. If you qualify for both (Optimass, Nate?) you must choose one!

There will be an outright total winner in each category who at this stage will win bragging rights. There will be a winner based on Wilks too. The 2 Wilks winners will win a Freeview decoder each(Either Standard Definition Satellite or High Definition UHF, the winners choice) as sponsored by my company - Cable and Dish. If anyone else wants to get on board and sponsor a prize let me know

The cut off for entries is Jan 14! That gives everyone 6 weeks to get their entries in! So put your name forward if you would like to enter! Lets see some lifts

also the same for bench press with dumb bells or bar bells would be a good idea the for smith machine squats including rack pulls as well.

Smith machine squat? Lol

Pls go.

The standard 3 lifts are simple to police in regards to quality of reps,

There are too many variations to how ppl do alot of other exercises.

Why make it the same old boring bench dead and squat?

Make it something interesting.

Hey bro! Nice to see you back on here :P

The reason behind using 'the same old lifts' is because they are generally the measuring stick we are all used to when gauging strength. The lifts have been refined by powerlifting so there are few variables.

As Tom said, there are too many variables on the other lifts. If we used shoulder press is it barbell or DB? Standing or seated? Is an 80' angle on the seat fine or does it have to be 90'? Down to chin height or all the way to chest etc etc.

I'm sticking with the 3 lifts chosen. You're either in or your out. If you're out your comments bear little weight anyway :pfft:

As for filming Jimmybro, get in touch with me on FB or pm and you can come down for a session at Flex with me if you want. Filming is fine over here :)

Maybe we should have Hack squats, Behind the back Shrugs and Wrist curls just for you Genetic Freek lol.

So many Powerlifters in this thread, not enough bodybuilders. I'm gonna move you to bb I think IDW and you too Tomleegolf if we don't get more bb entries.
