Soo have been searching and so many different opinions, when do you guys think is a good time to start using a lifting belt ?

i've only been squatting and deadlifting regularly for a couple weeks. maxs as far as i've been keen to test are : dead 120kg x 1 and squat 100 x 3  but with pretty good form

as they go up at what weight should i start using a belt? and can anyone recommend one?

When to start using a belt ? If you've only been squatting/ deadlifting for a couple of weeks, it's probably too soon...it's not a magic wand, it won't boost your squat or deadlift if you don't already have pretty good core strength.

As for what kind - Outbak is a reputable brand (apart from a dodgy batch of buckles that have probably all been sold by now), or you could look at Inzer (import yourself).

I'm not a fan of tapered ones (with a skinnier front) - the point is to give your abs something to brace against which the skinny front won't....

Where's the best place to buy an Outbak or similar 'quick release' type belt? I've had a look online but I'm not sure which sites are reputable

GETSTRENGTH.co.nz .... Dan does lever belts etc. I have a 2XL outbak for sale as have upgraded to titan lever. much better support for what I'm doing now.

I only belt on my final pull lately - just popped 260kg without one this week PB. Wont be able to do it all the time but I think there a benefits for training out as close to your threshold as you can so you dont rely too much on the belt but more on executing good form and technique.

:)

@Optimass - I'm talking about the quick release type like the Outbak one, not a lever one. Oh and I'm a medium dangit :(

@Steak - I've tried emailing kiwistrength over a week ago but they have not replied to me

...A lever belt is the quick release type.

Outbak belts are double pronged, you try getting that off quickly when you have it done up tight :pfft:

Just so you know, this is a lever belt:
