Interesting Bodybuilding Doco "What I want to look like"

If you have the time watch this documentary.

To give a brief overview it is about a man in his 40's or 50's that is out of shape and wanting to get that fitness body you see on fitness ads. He was one of many people who have fallen into the trap of buying useless fitness equipment, potions and what have you.

In the end he approached one of the guys from the fitness ads who is a owner of a gym and an IFBB Pro. He takes the guy under hes wing and gives him the opportunity and the tools he needs to achieve his desired body and to compete in a tested bodybuilding show.

The transformation is documented well and you see the drama's and challenges throughout the film. I found it quite captivating, and become more and more curious to see what the end result was.

The moral of the documentary was that nothing comes easy and nothing beats hard work.

i thought it was a semi interesting journey and in the end the guy displayed a pretty decent physique too. was really surprised by that back and especially legs...

having a crazy hard time that a 40 year old average guy who doesn't even lift ended up with two podium finishes in a bodybuilding contest within just 6 months - with or without the use of anabolics that timeframe just seems way too short for him to have done this much!

also pretty retarded how he starts to judge people at low bf while on diet and doesn't edit to fix his opinion later (after he's settled on maintenance cals rather than long term deficit) "why do people do this??? this is crazy.. starving ourselves... stupidest sport... not a contest of who works hardest, contest of who eats the least" - what a load of crap

... the natty ifbb pro gym owner/his trainer 'jeff' apparently has 1 solid meal a day at his mums house (a salad) and drinks water rest of the day.

Stopped watching less than 3mins into it when they said the bodybuilder was natural.

What's the point watching the rest when they bullshit you 2 minutes in.

They didn't even need to bring that up its irrelevant but they did.

wish i had your common sense. watched it all and still in pure disbelief of what has been presented.

it all makes a lot more sense now though why they really emphasize that they are 'natural' because they're trying to sell their own shit to people. went to the guys site and seems they are (very ironically) selling the dvd along with a generic nutrition plan for people to use to get the same results lol.

pic for people who didn't bother watching;

(6 months progress from no lifter to competition day)

I-want-to-look-like-that-guy.jpg

* 42 years old, think it was around 154lbs (69kg) to make this weight class

in that '6 month's he also had the following problems/obstacles

* bicep tear

* broken toe

* strep throat and some other time off due to sickness

* 'cookie bulking'

* crazy emotional breakdowns (crying, rage etc.)

Next BB movie on the list ; Teddy Bear [2012] http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1729226/

I have seen a short part of this on YouTube already I think, the guy pretty much just gets teased and made fun of by others....

He lives with his mum or something...

yeah Dennis thats the one, apparently the short film and the movie have pretty different storylines though i havent seen either yet. thanks for the link, will see if i can watch that short film before the full feature.

Another film that might be worth watching is "Pain and Gain"

With Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson.

I really enjoyed watching "I want to look like that guy" and bought into the whole idea of Max-OT training for 8 months. I certainly got way stronger than I ever had but mass wise it didn't deliver. I never tried to lean down on it like this guy did but I just don't think it works for me. One thing I did like about it was I was in and out of the gym in under an hour and it complemented my rugby season because I seemed to recover a lot faster from the lower reps and set ranges.

You might have not got the results from that style of training because you were over reaching (not over training) you should cycle this type of training with low volume to get better results.

Look up Periodisation training, Max-OT would be considered a strength phase.
