Agree with whats been said so far. Fed bashing is not cool - I got good mates in the CAPONZ fed and wish them all the best going forward. Back to the topic :)

RE: IOC inclusion

@Dr Squat - I'm don't think the sport of PL had full recognition from the IOC - only the International Powerlifting Federation (Intl Fed) was recognised for possible inclusion in future games - it's listed with a whole group of sports including Karate, Netball, Cricket, Surfing etc.

I think a lot of funding would be opened up to a lot of countries from the IOC, especially the developing nations. With weightlifting, I know a lot of the Pacific Island countries receive good Solidarity funding for their athletes.

I think it would be a good thing for PL to get in to Olympics - as it could potentially bring a different carrot for lifters - maybe a few guys will jump ship from other feds to become an Olympian.

But yeah, has to happen first (maybe in 2024) :)

It was a novice comp so there is no lifter list apart from who turns up on Te day. I was the one who was signing people up and as soon as I saw him I asked the secretary to deny him entry and I was told we were unable to refuse entry. It took a lot I my self control not to do other things after the stuff that was said in here. The guy is a moron and we all know it. We do take drug seriously and I don't think there is an powelifrter in the nzpf who is abusing the dfnz policy to my knowledge. Things should be changing soon to give associations the powers to deny entry in the future

Good calls there BB.

Out of competition testing is happening on registered lifters. I know of 3 such instances just from CD's in the last few months (myself included). So anyone who thinks NZPF aren't taking testing seriously I beg to differ given DFSNZ turned up on my doorstep 5:10pm on a Sunday a few weeks back. Good to see testing is frequent and random.

And it is cool that IPF may be getting IOC recognition. I have a question with that though, just because a sport has IOC recognition, this doesn't mean it is necessarily going to be included in the Olympics does it?

That's correct Hayden - just because a sport has IOC recognition it doesn't mean inclusion in to the Olympics.

Here's a link detailing the sports that are included in the Olympics and the sports that are IOC recognised but are not included in the Olympics:

Heaps of sports on the list that are recognised but not included.

man that really sucks! glad you had the balls to back up what you said, pity you werent supported. props to you though.

so is it quite difficult for sports in general to go from being recognised to becoming an olympic sport? I get that impression from the comments?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu couldn't get included into the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil...despite it being a truly world-wide and massively growing sport. That shows how hard it is.

I sometimes wonder how synchro swimming and such can get in, but it really is tough.

My opinion re powerlifting is still the same. With the amount of drug positives over the years, it's more a question of whether weightlifting will stay in the Olympics, nevermind PL making it in. I'll be extremely happy to be proven wrong.

ThreeWhiteLights, we log every mod edit that gets made, so if you ever feel you've been unfairly edited by a moderator, you're welcome to bring it to my attention. I select my mods primarily because I think they are fair and impartial - and if they're ever not, I want to know! :)

Cheers Pseudonym

Just so you know mate - Im the only CAPO registered mod (currently) - when CAPO first came into scope it was the other mods that got involved in the sanctioning of posts. I made it pretty clear I wouldn't mod a post that was made for or against CAPO (or NZPF). Drizzt took the lead here and he trains out of the NZPF stronghold (no disrespect OB :) ... your gym is pretty cool though)

This is because I didn't want people to assume I was influencing opinion. I have chosen to stay out of the shit flinging as have most of the credible powerlifters on this site. Like Tonka and Dan - I am keen to see the end of the fed challenges - for the most part it seems to have dropped off except for the odd "uneducated" opinon from a "non-affiliated" person from time to time. Either way I have learned a lot and still learn from guys that lift in both feds. With the amount of interest in CAPO and the change coming through in NZPF IMO New Zealand has become very fortunate.

IMO IOC membership is a great achievement - however, initially it comes at huge financial cost - may be detrimental to countries with smaller feds. And in order to be fully registered - I suspect you cannot reject someone from participating in the sport because of an affiliation. Olympic sports allow for all peoples to have an opportunity to participate in it.
