Fizzy drink dilemma

checked the website :

"360 Tidal Wave contains only 7.95g sugar/100m"

that is still a lot more sugar than coke zero/diet coke, which has 0 or close to it i think?

so obviously this has more calories.

just depends how fussed you are about drinking coke zero etc's artificial sweeteners as to whether its "better" or not

What's wrong with water or a cup of coffee.

I don't understand the need to drink soft drinks/sweet drinks, I do like my milk drinks though, but they have nutritional valve.

Coke is just liquid sugar and Coke zero is just fizzy liquid load with any kinds of artificial rubbish...

Nothing wrong with coke zero unless you are intolerant to caffeine or phenylalanine. Not very good for your teeth to drink lots and lots though as all carbonated drinks are quite acidic.

Lately I've been hitting up the soda water and sugar free lime cordial on ice with a dash of bitters. Tastes damn good. Tastes even better with a wack of gin in it \:D/

Since stopping my coke zero intake I have now managed to lose 2.5kgs in 8 weeks, and I'm still losing. its the artificial sweetener in it that can slow your fat loss. Sorry I don't have any studies to back it up but this is personal experience

Good common sense, Artificial sweeteners have been rigorously tested I have no problem with drinking Coke Zero while cutting.

Not trying to be a facetious, but your weight loss is probably due to burning more calories than you are taking in. If you think coke zero is slowing your fat loss just do extra cardio, problem solved.

I doubt you'll find studies as there isn't really any physiological reason that Coke Zero would stop you losing fat. Sounds like you cleaned up your diet, which included eliminating fizzy drinks, and lost a couple kilos in a couple of months. I don't believe the ONLY difference in your diet or exercise is removal of coke zero. If you had drunk some during the last 2 months, I would expect the same results

Lol this! correlation does not equal causation. did you also change toilet paper brands? Maybe that also helped you to lose those 2.5kg? :pfft:

I will stand by what I said, Yes I'm CrossFitting now but I was also not losing the weight with it either. I had changed my diet and was still having the coke zero, Hand on Bible. I then continued to not lose weight, had a really good chat with my trainer and worked out that I could try and cut out the coke zero, which I did. Low and behold it worked. Now coke free 4 months. Oh BTW there are plenty of new studies out there that shows that the artificial sweetener can/does act the same as sugar in your body and there are a number of people that have actually gained weight cause of the artificial stuff.

so your saying that taking in the exact amount of calories plus coke zero maintained your weight, but minus the coke you lost weight?

its not the coke, you wouldve burnt more calories since then. or your intake has changed and you havent accounted for it.

Links to studies? I expect that the reason some see weight gain with increased diet coke intake is because they are probably increasing the amount of other food they eat or just have a shitty diet anyway. Aspartame alone (or flavoured water for that matter) cannot make you gain weight and cutting it out with making no other changes doesn't make you lose weight. If anything there may be increased water retention while drinking lots of coke zero, and stopping may mean you now hold less water but I still think it's more likely that you're finally seeing results from crossfitting and/or you have made some other diet changes. The laws of thermodynamics say so

artificial sweeteners in coke zero have zero calories. I've read some of these studies and maybe in some enzyme assay in a test tube there may be some very slight breakdown to yield a very minor amount of energy (less than 1 calorie). But in the scheme of your entire body, this will not have any appreciable effect on weight loss, it would fall within the margin of error that is inherent to giving foods an average calorie value.

I have seen a study in rats where giving them artificial sweetener caused them to eat more and expend less energy, presumably because the sweetener tells the brain that there is a large amount of carbohydrate coming and it never arises, stimulating the rats to eat more chow. However, in a diet where you are controlling your own calorie content this doesn't even become an issue.

Would it be safe to assume that since you have taken up crossfit you are following a paleo diet? Crossfit "Nutritionists" who subscribe to this diet are blindly anti-anything we did not eat as cave men and would probably explain why they think cutting out diet coke is going to help you lose weight.

Yes swapped to Paleo and still had the Coke zero. Until the last couple of months and then stopped it, and the weight just fell off. Every other thing in my diet has remained the same. It could be all the cross fit, I wont argue there. But I have read studies that show that the artificial sweeteners can hinder your weight loss. I won't post links cause that is what Goggle is for, also you will always find articles for both sides of the story. This is what I have found for myself, and its the only thing that we can point it down to. I have dieted for a very long time now (over 6 years) and I have tried a lot of different things. Now full fat products and lots of water and the weight is falling off I just cant explain it.
