Can you over do these?

Obviously prett my hard to over do for someone like me whose overall flexibility is shit.

Iv increased my running alot lately and my legs from my knees down are giving me arseholes. Iv got a good pair of shoes Asics landreths which suit my foot type and just got orthotics last week. I been foam rolling the f*ck out of them and stretching but the pain just seems to be moving around.. I'm 96kg at the mo and that probably doesn't help but anyone know about this kinda stuff?

If u could shed some views would be appreciated

What do shin splints have anything to do with flexibility? Just start swimming brah

Shin splints are partly caused by tight/inflexble calve muscles which pulls on the fascia which is attached to the bone.

And not all lower leg pain is shin splints!

I was just after advice/experiences not to have someone try out smart me . Whatever man.

Basically What I want to know is can u do too much foam rolling, stretching and massage.

In some situations yes. especially in relation to soft tissue work/massage.

If the area has severe inflammation for what ever reason (eg: direct blow to it) to much soft tissue work can worsen things (increase inflammation) . Especially in an area such as the legs where things are packed a bit "tighter" and can lead to compartment issues.

In your case (just from what I read) I think you can get away with quite a bit of work to it... but end of the day consistency is what matters.

Read up on general ankle mobility and static stretching and formulate your own routine.

Foam roll (also work into your plantar fascia with a tennis/cricket or golf ball as it is anatomically related to the calf muscles trough the fascia and will help with general ankle mobility/dorsi flexion).

If you in the gym you could roll the thick part of the oly bar over your calfs as a form of heavier more intense "foam rolling" just kneel on some

foam or something...

Mobility work...

Static stretching ...

For some more ideas look at some mobility Wod videos on Youtube.

These things come to mind. I hope you find them helpfull... you weren't very specific with pain location and onset etc .... Just my 2 cents

Good luck.

maybe looking at doing some mobility assessing first? look up kelly starret's site mobility WOD, do some tessting on your calfs and ankles etc. at least you will have some idea what the problem is or isnt, ie if you have really good mobility already, then more rolling and stretching definitely wont help you.

but it might help you identify what needs work.

It's the running m8, I had the same problem, I was running most days per week, it got to a point where I just had to stop, it gets so frustrating.

I took a couple months off running and started up on a treadmill and never had any lower leg issues again.

Cheers bro.

Strange today I put my orthotics into my old nike vomero running shoes and did a 2.4km run around the athletic track and no pain at all apart from afterwards on the inner part of my shins a totally different pain from before, bit of ice and all good, tight as f*ck just needs consistent stretching and time to get flexible I think.. I got the orthotics last thurs and was told to wait a week before running in them. I was skeptical of them at first and cost me $240 but I think they may be starting to work. Wasn't a ultra fast run time was 9min 35sec but ill give it another week and a few more runs and if all good ill buy a new pair of nikes

It's alright it's just under 1min 35sec each 400m lap. that's about my capacity at the moment though. By that I mean I can't do shit afterwards apart from fall down. But yeah not bad for 96kg lol. Thanks

Anyway ill post back itt in a week or so see how the pain is etc.
