Setting Up Home Gym

hjp

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I am looking at some stage in the future to set up a home gym. Interested in knowing from anyone who has done the same. What rack they brought, where it was from etc.

Also if anyone on here is selling anything (especially old plates, they're pricey as) or builds their own sturdy cages etc.

If you have pics of your home set up that would be cool also. Always cool to see peoples set ups.

Thanks

Got plates and bars off no1 fitness. Their 20kg oly bar is a bit thicker than standard bars which I didn't know until I found the bars at powerlifting comps were thinner than I was used to. Also the bar's collars are crap and come loose after a while even without banging them too hard ie Oly lifts. I have to keep tightening them up every two weeks or so. I would recommend investing in a better barbell, it's worth it.

Plates are durable and good though. I ordered the steel ezi grip plates as they were a lot cheaper but they ended up sending me the rubber coated ones by mistake. Score! Haha. Anyway, I got some more plates later on and they sent me the steel ones this time. I definitely prefer the rubber coated plates as they are easier to grip and make less noise. The steel plates are slightly larger in diametre.

Good luck

put up photos when youre done, give the rest of us some ideas

Will do bro, won't be anything fancy though, just a barbell, a bench, some plates an a rack (with chin bar)... Maybe a few years an I can get some different stuff. But that will be all I really need.

Are you going to train only at home? What made you want to leave the gym environment?

Sick of waiting for people & people thinking they're the boss. Many more people are using the squat racks an barbells these days (more members an more using free weights) and so I end up waiting 20 minutes or so for a barbell. Not all the time but enough to warrant getting frustrated with it. An I just get sick of muppets walking round with their chests puffed up like they own the place, eyeing you up etc. Would rather have my own space.

My membership there doesn't expire till the end of january (was a 12month cheap staff one) so I can still go use some equipment there etc every now an again if I need to

Hopefully over time I can get a bit more equipment (hopefully build a platform in the next couple of weeks) but its a good start!
